I have just in the past 2 years been diagnosed with RRMS. I have had 3 disabling attacks; the first attack went misdiagnosed and the second one almost did. I am recently started Betaseron shots, but am experiencing side effects that are becoming almost unbearable (nausea, lack of appetite, fevers & headaches, etc), not to mention the cost of the medication is breaking me.
Every time I talk to my doctor in regards to the side effects and the severity of some of them, he tells me that the benefits outweigh the risks of the medication and that I should continue to take the medicine. I feel as though he disregards what I say and talks down to me. Understandable, I don't have a medical degree and did not study neurology, but from what I can tell no one seems to know a whole lot of anything about it.
I suppose I really need some advice. I'll admit I'm still scared; I never know what days will be bad and what days will be good, if I'll be disabled in the near future, or if this disease is going to overrun my life.
I would really appreciate any advice anyone could give. Maybe pointers or something you have experienced? It would mean a lot to me :-)

Have you contacted the folks at Betaseron to see if you'd qualify for their financial assistance program ("Betaplus")? $0 copay.....

I'm on Rebif which is $4000/mo.....called their financial ppl and joined their program - now my copay is $0. I have insurance, so without the program my copay would've been $250/mo.
Hang in there. Find a good support group or therapist if you haven't already. That has helped me tremendously.
Go to www.betaseron.com and go to the "Betaplus Tools & Support" section and select "Affording Betaseron" from the menu.

I do currently have a therapist for my mood swings. I was already kind of rapid cycling as it was, so after starting the Betaseron it got a lot worse.
Hi I was DX close to 3 yrs ago. I started and have remained on Avonex. When I started I was told to take my shot at night & pain meds( ibuprofen) and it has been good to me. Ya it sucks and my arms and legs are soar sometimes. I am also on the copay assistance program. Avonex is a once a week shot, not sure about yours but I wish you well.
