Glad to hear you are doing okay shell. I have never heard of that stuff you cited in your thread. I would like to think that treatments and/or cures could really be out there. I won't give up hope. There are alot of new therapies coming in 2012, so hang on.

I have read about n-acetylglucosamine, or NAG, and asked my neuro about it last week. He said there is research going on, and the results are about 5 yrs out. Can't say how many times I've heard that one before. I also asked him about allopregnonolone, which was researched at some university in Canada. Edmonton, I think, and has shown success in Alzeheimer's patients. Again, it's 5 yrs out. The latter study was interesting as allopregnonone is a neuro steroid and has connections to progesterone and I think vit D. He said they are all interesting but he would not go out and start taking things without waiting for the research. That's him. You can buy the NAG from vitamin stores, or on Amazon. I did nit find any at my local store but am going to ask my naturopath about it next week. You can buy pregnonolone and I have read some testimonies by people with MS taking it. It is hard to trust where it is coming from, but if you find a reputable company that offers it, I'd take it. I did find pregnonolone at the vitamin store and started taking that for now.

Brian, I have never heard of pregnonolone but I'll look into it. I haven't tried to the n-acetylglucosamine yet but plan on giving it a go in the near future. I won't be giving up the Rebif anytime soon though. I really hope they come up with something else though. I've only been injecting since June and already I'm sick of it. I can't even imagine having to do this for the next 30+ years.

Brian--when did you start pregnenolone? I have found it from several places on the net and wondering where you got it. So have you noticed any changes in how you feel? Interested in trying it.

Punky1- I started taking it about two weeks ago, I think. Haven't noticed anything major yet. I don't know if it will have the same effect as tha allopregnenolone, but it was all I could find. The capsules I have are 50 mg and I take one a day, before breakfast. I just got some blood drawn in prep for my naturopath appt next week. I asked if they could check for allopregnenolone levels. The nurse was not sure how the test is done- it is a blood test- but hopefully I can get it checked and discuss it at my appt. Maybe also find where to get the allopregnonolone. The pregnenolone I got at Vitamin Word. It was $12 or $13, I think.

I just read an interesting study that found blood serum levels of allopregnenolone to be elevated in inebriated teen age girls, as opposed to sober ones.

I'll let you know what the dr says next week. I am going to ask about the n-acetylglucosamine as well.

I did read that as pregnenolone is a pre-cursor to all kinds of hormones, it has the potential to increase those as well. My doc checks my levels for those as well. It only being 2 weeks since I started, I am curious to know if it has caused any changes. I have not started growing facial hair or become emotionally unstable or anything noticeable, but I do want to look into that as well. Some websites suggested a dose no higher than 5 mg to avoid irritability, agressive behavior, or insomnia. Like I said, I have noticed no side effects so far.
