OMG... I am on the same ride. I've been revolving around all the specialists for years and getting nowhere except worse. I never know if my MS is kicking me around or if it's the Fibro or Osteo or all the other problems I seem to have. I've had so many MRI's of various body parts and each one shows some other problem. But they all feel the same to me. And the treatments are all pretty much the same for each one. Hope you get some answers.

Hi littlemart. I'm so sorry to hear you've been having such a rough time. I know that disheartening feeling of not having any definite answers. It seems dx ing is a grey foggy realm without clear markers often. now waiting to get another MRI and an lp....waiting is so anxiety provoking. I'm just so frustrated that each doc so sure they're right: so 5 different dx leave me totally confused. I hope you get the answers you need and find some peace. In meantime, we can give each other some solace and comfort that were not alone and don't need a shrink....(heard that dx too). Lol. Take care.

I'm sorry for what you are going through. I do have fibro and MS. I can tell the difference in the pain. Fibro causes aches and weakness. I have progressive MS and nerve pain can sometimes be intolerable. I no longer take copaxone, tysabri, etc. as they don't help me. Here's what I am doing. I take a B12 injection weekly and 5,000 units of vitamin D daily. At night I take trazadone and 5mg valium. In the morning I take sertraline and 2.5 mg valium. Surprisingly the sertraline has stopped the leg and arm spasms completely. The valium helps also because I have a super active personality and get anxious when I can't get done the things I want to do - you know like mop, vacuum. My body is too weak to perform these things any more. The trazadone puts me into deep sleep so I wake up rested. Watch what you eat - stay away from preservatives. I have never heard about the leaky gut syndrome - now how would that have an effect on brain lesions? My suggestion would be to see a MS specialist to clarify your diagnosis. I have several brain lesions but didn't get the actual diagnosis of MS until they did a lumbar puncture and my spinal fluid told them it was MS. The fibro diagnosis was also made at that time because of the pressure point pain and swellings at those areas. As hard as it is, keep up your spirits - enjoy every day, stay connected with your friends. If possible, find a MS specialist at a major hospital so you can have access to all the testing they need to do. I truly wish you well.

Thank you elvaira. I am pretty sure I have both Ms and fibromyalgia because symptoms of each differ. And I was wondering if current neuro really specializes in ms. Its very helpful and healing just to make contact in here with empathetic people who know what I've been through. Its been awful riding this roller coaster of dx's. I am on a benzo and an antidepressant, both help the pain and anxiety. Take care. I hope you feel better soon.

To put in my two cents. . . the progressive forms are ppms and spms, the later being how they define someone who starts off with rrms and it later becomes progressive (about 50% of rrms develop into spms). On Thursday they did an international webinar on progressive MS. Here is the link (I hope):

There are people with both fibro and MS. The symptoms are a lot alike. It is hard to tell what is fibro and what is MS but your neuro needs to do testing to check to see if it is MS. MRI's and lumbar puncture can be done to see if it is MS. I do not think the doctors just throw fibromyalgia as a diagnose because they do not know what to call it. There are tender points that a person has in order for a fibro diagnose. You need to get your doctors working together. If they do not want to work together, find some that will. My daughter has fibro and a few other health issues. It took forever to find doctors to work together but we have and it is much better knowing that everyone is on the same page. I wish you the best. Thank you Anne and DJ for your thoughts. It helps to hear how other ppl are dealing with this merry go round of specialists. I had a second MRI, this time with contrast. Said plaques could indicate possible Ms. I could not tolerate the lp. Dr. Kept hitting a nerve and it felt like she was sawing my leg off with a price of broken glass. So she stopped and I refuse to be tortured like that again. New neuro next week to get a second opinion. Sometimes, when resting, I almost feel normal. Then I stand up to do something and get slammed with some new weird symptom. Hopefully more answers after next week. Thanks again. Its comforting not to be going thru this alone.

I saw a comment on here that shocked me. It said a friend who has Fibromyalgia gets deep tissue massage!!! What???!!! I have Fibromyalgia bad and can't even tolerate light massage. I thought anyone with Fibromyalgia couldn't tolerate any type of massage or pressure. I have a muscle and nerve problem in my body that flares just like my Fibromyalgia and it hurts bad.when I have to go to the chiropractor and he.pushes or presses on my back.

been a long road for me too. My first pain doc blew me off as fibro, even thou I'm a guy and none of my issues looked like fibro. Then they thought I had lyme but all the tests were negative and none of the antiboitcts worked. Long term antiboitcts didn't do anything. My family doc said ms shouldn'd cause any pain. My neuro said if it is ms it's a progressive form of ms. Basicly throught process I have got it down to either ms or lyme. Or I am just plain nuts
