MS and my Allergy test today- What I learned!
deleted_user
My allergy test was today. I got there at 130 and left at 430 !!! After two hours of sitting waitig to be called back, I was numb from my waist down and ready to throw a hissy fit !!!
It was worth the wait though. This is an old school General Practioner who also specializes in allergies. He was so knowledgeable about MS and spent an a long time explaining how my diet is causing many of my symptoms and my kidney stones. He said that I should take 1 tablespoon of Organic(this is important) Apple Cider Vinegar in a cup of water. It will neurtralize the build up of acid in my body-- it will dissolve kidney stone, and help some of my MS symptoms.
He said I must start getting the right kind of fats in my diet-- flax oil and fish oils because Mylin is made of these and they will possibly help repair and prevent damage.
He said, by looking at my tongue, I have too much yeast. If there is yeast in my mouth, it's also inside my digestive tract which maybe causing many of the reflux and allergy symptoms I'm having.
His allergy test will also include a yeast levels check. He is checking my thyroid because one of my eyes tends to "bug" out and he is going to go ahead and check all of my vitamin levels ! He believes MS is on the rise b/c of poor diet and enviromental factors. He has been around a long long time... and he has seen many MS patients who have improved by eating right. He gave me a food plan he has written (he said it's NOT a diet, it's healthy living) He also gave me the name of a health store to get the things I need.
He did the regular "Neuro type tests" on me.. feet together, arms out, eyes closed (y'all know I hate that one) and of course, I fell backwards...
If what he believes is true and our diets impact us this much--- I'm Ready--- teach me the ways... If I can stop the stones from forming (btw, he says too much meat in my diet is the root of most stones) and if I can feel my legs again... whoop..... whoop.... I'll feel like a new woman.
All of what he said, made so much sense to me! I've never been one for all the organic, clean eating, food causes all of problems believers but there maybe a lot of truths to all of this.. It will be two weeks before my allergy tests are back so in the meantime, I'm gonna try to revamp my diet and see how I feel ! he says to avoid drugstore vitamins and go to a health food store... have you guys found all of this to be true? I know some of you swear by the clean diets and vitamins... I hope this opens a great discussion for nutrition and MS.. Thanks''''

I don't follow any special diet and I probably should. I'm also a smoker, a number one issue for MSers. I do everything in my power to keep myself down it seems. I really need to work on that.
I do take supplements though, but haven't found any relief from them. Many here swear by their diet plans in aiding their MS symptoms, along with a supplement regime. There must be something to it.
As for the vitamins, that's a work in progress. I take omega 3, D and multi. I'm not very consistent so I'm still working on that. Glad to hear you got some good information and that your doctor took time to really tried to be helpful. Not sure what more we can ask for.
He said that he believes MS is a man made disease- it's not natural.. meaning diet and enviromental causes created the disease. I'm not saying he is right or wrong. I'm just sharing his beliefs that I'm willing to try to feel better. I have not 1 argument to any of his advice because he has seen MS patients improve and symptoms dissapear. Since I have not attempted any of this yet, I can not validate. Please forgive any typos.. I'm typing quickly... I hope this helps us.
He told me to start each day with 1 tablespoon of ORGANIC Apple Cider Vinegar mixed with 4-6 ounces of water (add honey if needed for taste) It will neutralize the acid in my body and detox- help with MS symptoms and dissolve and prevent kidney stones) My own research shows where it has MANY other health benefits (and wonderful to put on your skin) Please research it.. You'll be surprised.
EAT FOR HEALTH DIET.
1. Eat three meals a day, on time the best you can. Don't eat when you're hungry- eat when it's time to eat.. this keeps your body on a schedule. MOST OF OUR DIET SHOULD COME FROM FRESH FRUITS AND VEGETABLES... this is repeated many times in this plan but I will mention it just once.
2. Drink water. 95% of what you drink should be water. Avoid drinks which contain sugar. Small amounts of tea and coffee are ok.
3. Start you snack or meal with a few bites of protein-This will maintain your blood sugar... meat, eggs, dairy products- milk, cheese, raw nuts, seeds, natural peanut butter combined with any two of the following-corn, rice, beans, tortilla peas
4. Protein then Carbs which include fruits, vegetables, grains(breads, cereals, pastas-- But limit sugars, pasta, rice and potatoes-- a few bites ONLY
5. Eat slow and chew well.. LIMIT LIQUIDS WITH EACH MEAL BECAUSE IT SLOWS DIGESTION AND FILLS YOUR STOMACH. A few swollows will limit choking. Drink plenty of water between meals.
6. Avoid high fat food such as pork and hamburgers. Steak and roast beef have 25% as much fat as hamburger. Eat lean meats with little fat such as chicken and fish. Avoid fried foods and luncheon meats.
7. Include Good Fats-flaxseed oil, olive oil, canola oil, avocado, raw nuts an dblack olives. Nuts and good fats help avoid absorbing sugar from carbs too quickly. Try to avoid butter/margarine..
8. Avoid diet drinks and ALL artificial sweetners. Use Sweet and Low and Splenda in moderation. Honey and Lemon are good substitutes.
9. Limit alcohol to 2 drinks a day- this is heart healthy- more than 2 has the opposite effects.
10. Read labels of food and drinks. The more natural, the better. Processed foods and drinks destroy natural vitamins and minerals.
Avoid hydrogenated soy an other chemically added oils found in many baked foods. It causes premature aging and heart disease. However, when it comes to chips and snacks-- baked is better- the difference in 1 gram vs 10-12 grams of bad fats..
11. Consider "Juicing" for health and energy.. 10-12 ounces of fresh -juiced carrot is best.. You can add 1 tablespoon of these to juice-barley green powder, lethicin soy granules, and Norwegian cod liver oil and watch your energy and health soar.
12.Avoid fast food when possible- If you eat these, choose those that serve salds, baked items or create fresh, low fat sandwiches such as subway.
13. Take a natural chelated vitamin and mineral supplement. NOT the ones found at the drug store-- Health food stores are best.
14. MOST IMPORTANT- take control of your health. Health is determined by what you choose to eat and the right supplements and drinking plenty of water. Try to at least get 10-20 minutes of exercise 3 xs a week.
Most of it sounds good. I don't agree with the no liquids with a meal. I choke when I eat & have to drink a full glass of cordial/flavoured water or I wont be able to eat the meal regardless of what I am eating.
A lot of it is common sense - like the sugars & less fatty meats & no fried food too.
Will be following how you go.
My father recently had Gastro surgery for weight loss and his diet plan and Doctor say that liquids should be avoided with meals but in small amounts. It makes sense if the person has no swollowing difficulities.. I'll keep everyone posted on all of this.. I wish this was it's own discussion post b/c many may not see this. I'll also update you guys on what I learn at the health food store..

makes alot of sence to me..going to try and follow it with you, Stacey
In the original post it was talked about taking Apple cider vinegar in water and then in reply #10 taking lemon juice in water.
Both lemon juice and vinegar have very LOW pH (acidic) like your stomach acid.
People sometimes have "heart burn" ( chyme from stomach slops up into esophagus and burns the lining). This can be caused by the sphincter not closing in some neurological conditions (sometimes MS). It can because of ulcers that need to taken care of by your doctor.
Many docs prescribe antacids (base or HIGH pH) to try to reduce heartburn. However many cases may be caused by low amount of stomach acid. (see Heidelberg capsule test). So using lemon juice/apple cider vinegar with a pH very similar to your stomach acid this can reduce heartburn (as long as sphincter muscle is working, no ulcers, etc).
The problem with antacids is that chemical reactions occur at specific pH. If you continually use antacids your REDUCE the chemical reactions and REDUCE the nutrition you are absorbing which can lead to deficiencies.
I just thought I would add that little tid bit.
Again this is a good post,
EP
Thanks again for the good info
