I have a strange question. I was reading an article in a magazine this week about perimenopause. I have many of the symptoms that were listed, but I'm only 37, which seems a little early. I don't think that runs in my family. I googled "MS and early menopause" and got a few different articles/blogs about women wondering if their MS therapies were causing early menopause. I know I just need to see my doctor, but wanted to ask if this has happened to anyone else.

Actually it is possible because I have been living it for a while now. MS started showing up in my early 20's and I am 38 now. I have had issues with 'perimenopause' since my early 30's. I wish I had known more about hormone replacement therapy before considering a hysterectomy (which I believe I needed anyway because of cysts, etc).

I have found good information about Hormone Replacement Therapy in a book by Suzanne Somers. Take a look at the info in the book and see if it sounds like you.

TaraP- have you gotten your hormone levels checked. I've been wondering if something similar is happening to me. My hair has been falling out like crazy and according to the pharmacies my medications would not cause it. My hormone levels are acceptable but I don't know if that means it is not completely hormone related. The only other times I've lost hair like this was after pregnancies for a few months but this has been going on for over a year now. I know a lot of what the doctors/pharmacists say is not a side effect still happens. Please share any info you find useful. I'm only 31 so I thought I had a ways to go but who knows.

Thanks for your replies! That gives me some good suggestions of what to look into and what to talk about with my doctor. And, as always, it's great to know I'm not alone and not just going crazy!

I have read on one of the menopause websites that women with autoimmune diseases are more prone to early menopause. I believe it's true, my periods were always regular until about 5 years ago, now they just show up whenever they feel like it. Stress can also be a BIG factor, during a particularly stressful time I went for 6 months without a period. I was ready to say bye-bye to Stayfree, then I got out of the stressful situation, and wouldn't you know it, here they come again. I have learned to expect the unexpected.

One more thing....I went to a endogr (still can't spell!!!) and he told me everything 'looked normal' or in the 'normal range'. I then though it was just me, but I did continue to look for a doctor that specialized in the Biodentical hormones. I have an appt on Monday with a different doctor in an attempt to 'get my hormones 'BALANCED'... Wish me luck and I send a bunch of luck to you!
