OK my MS doctor is going crazy over being tested for diabetes. I just had the fasting blood work done & my glucose is fine. Now she wants an oral glucose test done. Does this sound normal if my first test was ok? How many of you here have both? Any input would be great.

If you want definitive test for diabetes why is she not doing a A1C?

I don't know anything about diabetes testing so I don't know why she hasn't suggested that. My regular Dr, who i've been seeing for 12+ years says I have no reason to have anymore tests. He's also the one who helped me get my MS dx.

I've had so many tests(haven't we all) I just don't want to do anymore. Nor do I want to pay for anymore:)

In Canada you first get a fasting sugar level done
If it is normal they do not doing anything else
If you are having symptoms of high sugar at times
they do a test
Hemoglobin A1c Levels
Every time your sugar goes up or down it leaves markers
so this test they get an averge of your sugar levels for the last 3 months.

I am a diabetic & have MS
1.5 yrs ago when my MS went nuts my diabetes went nuts too
I now can not control my sugars

Now if you are on steroids they can affect your sugar levels.
In several ways
1. Not adsorbing simple carbs well.
2. makes your bodys insulin not work as well

so if you are on steroids your doc could be wanting to know how you boy is dealing with sugars

Kayce and EPagain gave you what info you need. You need an A1C test. I am both an MSer and a diabetic II. I wonder why doctors love to do tests and tests!
