I have suffered with migraine headaches for 12 years now. Mine began after the birth of my first child. I suffered with them for so long. Mine would last a day and a half, hubby took off quite a bit of work over those years, cause I was unable to care for our kids when one hit. I finally got up enough nerve to try Imitrex. It has been an absolute Godsend!! It is rather expensive, but worth it! My migraines used to last about a day and a half to two days. Now with this pill they are gone completely in an hour or two! (I do lie down, after taking it, real still, and quiet.) Any more questions feel free to message me. I was diagnosed in late 2007, with MS.

Michelle, as you know I'm not Dx with MS as of now, but I am with Fibro. I've been having Migraines for almost 15 years now. One of my recent neuros (I go to 2 now), put me on Doxepin as a Migraine preventative. It works fairly well, but not as good as the Topomax that I took previously...couldn't tolerate the side effects though (horrid burning pain with extremely painful pins & needles in hands/arms, feet/legs...I'm talking...I would get up & start running around in circles yelling "my feet are on fire!!!"...unreal!! However, it might not affect you the same way...as far as preventing the migraines...I thing it worked better than the Doxepin that I'm on now.

Sorry you're in pain. I just got through taking an extra muscle relaxer (Zanaflex) & pain pill (Oxycontin) myself b/c my neck/shoulders are ON FIRE!! and I'm very nauseaus...and MY HEAD HURTS!!....I'm afraid I'm going to have a full-Blown attack/Migraine!...hoping those pills kick in...SOON!! or I'll be down for the count here very shortly!

I hope that you get to feeling better! Maybe you should lay down for awhile. I know that I should be too, it's just that DS is SO ADDICTING!!! I love all of my friends here & I always think that I'm going to miss out on something good! ;)

I've started getting them in the last 2 weeks... but I think it's because I am up to my full dose of Rebif now...

I was never a person to get headaches very often and I get them all the time now. Only once though would I say it was of migraine proportions. My hubby gets them. He used to take Imitrex when it was in shot form. He had an injector that I used to just give him the shot when he needed it. It did work very quickly but it made him shakey. I think they have worked on making that side effect better with the pill form. Anyhow, now he doesn't take it. He has found that Excedrin Migraine (the round ones that are green on one side and white on the other) work great. He said the other Excedrin Migraine doesn't work as well as those green and white ones.

The mac daddy of all migraine meds is Maxalt. My neuro gave me some samples. You take one at the onset of your headache, and then another one hour later if you still have pain. They make an quick dissolve tablet that you can take without water. Nothing used to touch my headaches! I've never tried Imitrex, but it might be cheaper. I know i's an older med. My insurance only "allows" me to have three migraines a month!

Excedrine migraine has the same ingrediants in it as regular exedrine. I think that is just a sales pitch to sell excedrine. Imitrex is very expensive, it is around $190.00 for 9 pills. Thank God I don't get migraines usually more than 1-2 times per month.

Oh have I gotten migraines! They think it's due to my sleep apnea (both central & obstructive) but it also can be a lesion misbehaving, or who knows what? I start out taking Midrin. It's inexpensive and works if I take it when it first starts coming on. If I wait and take it too late, then an hour later I take a vicodin or oxycodone and go to bed. Usually in a few hours I'm alright if that happens. I've only had one that was so bad I ended up in the ER, then admitted to the hospital, then treated with caffeine IV & solumederol IV.

You can take Maxalt at any time during a headache, whether at onset or full blown scorcher, and it will kick it. Magic!
