If your doc is testing your memory, more than likely the doc will have you repeating numbers, phrases, and word sequences, identifying pictures you are shown a few minutes after seeing them, things like that. I have taken these tests and they are straight forward.

Just go in there and talk to them like you talk to us. Write yourself some notes if need be, after all, you are not expected to remember everything at this meeting.

I just finished a battery of tests like it sounds like you will be going through if the State takes you on. There was nothing painful, and many of the tests were fun. My husband and I had to fill out a questionnaire similar to the one that is give for ADD diagnosis. I go this upcoming Monday to get the results and am very anxious.

I only wish my state would do cognitivte testing-- it's just constant physical assesment 10 page forms that ask stupid questions- what could you do before you can't do now? That question alone, is 10 pages worth- and they want details.. It's been same answers or past year and they continue to want more medical records- over and over.. neverending...

When I had my meeting with a state appointed doctor/psychologist, she put me through a battery of tests like Bobby describes. I actually didn't do too badly on it, which was frustrating because it didn't show what loss I do have. I don't have a permanent loss, I have moments when I get confused as to where I'm at, or what I'm supposed to be doing, or where I'm supposed to be going. Like when I'm shopping, driving to the store, driving to an appt, etc. It's random and really can't be tested unless they follow me around during a day.

After two denials, I had a hearing. The judge was so kind and even touched on the matter of my memory problem not being able to show up on the test given. She was frustrated that I had been dismissed and misunderstood by the SS office. Everything they had twisted around in the denial letters, she validated for me in my favor. I felt understood by her, even guided throughout the hearing by her questions, and how she presented them to me asking specific detailed questions (not just about my memory). She had me describe how my memory was effected, so I explained the best I could. That's when she said the state appointed test given was a waste of time, and no wonder it made me look normal.
