I'm not sure about all areas of the country, but it can be done outpatient in my area. My neuro set it up with my local hospital and I went each day for 3 days, it took about 2 hours the first day so they could ask all the questions and get all the info, then about an hour each day after that. Your neuro's office should be able to set it up for you, check with them.

i think deb 727 is right. i did my solumedrol treatments out patient as well-- 2 hours stints for 3 days in a row.

fred lublin at the corrinne goldsmith center for MS at mt. sinai has a sympathetic staff. i''ll bet he'd let you do your treatment outpatient. i saw him for a 2nd opinion last year and i liked him fine. he's very well known in the ms world.

all of my solu-medrol treatments have been at home, i have had the 3 day and 5 day treaatments, im currently having one treatment a month for approx 9 months now, i had a nurse come to my house, put the iv in and hook up the med, it takes an hour for the iv then i take the iv out, for the 3 and 5 day treatments i leave the iv in, if i have a prob with it the nurse comes back out and puts a new line in,

im in the phila area, my doc is out of the univ of penn, the nurses that set everything up fall under penn home infusion therapy, they call me make sure the meds r at my house and schedule the nurse to come out, they r really good about the hole thing, there has to be something up there simmilar, it is nyc, good luck finding a doc, make sure he/she is someone u can talk to, very important

Sorry to not answer your question but I did my IV at home, 4 days. Did he mention why he wants you admitted? Welcome to the club!

I'm on LI and I have done in the home and in the dr's office. The first time they are more cautious but after that less concerned. I did it myself over a weekend. Most places don't want to give up the bed for this.

in pa where i live you can do it in your own home a nurse will come out and dothe drip x 5 days. Me i start my own ivs and run them at my house(the advantage of being a nurse). Check with your insurance carrier to see if they cover home health visits.

you should be able to do it out patient. I did it.. but then again I wasn't in the hospital.

After your IV treatment, google Dr. Bihari and LDN.

I live in NYC too. Yes, I receive treatments at home of IV treatments that my dr has arranged and my insurance pays for. I know there are some hospitals in NYC that have very extensive MS clinics. You may want to check into them to see what is available. You may also want to talk to your dr. about treatment at home, it really is more comfortable and private. Good Luck.

Welcome. Sorry you have MS but you have found a good place to come. I was just diagnosed in 9/07. I had two rounds of IV steroids, both outpatient. Good luck. I don't like in NYC but you can find a neurologist who specializes in MS in your area via the MS society web site.
