well I am like 40 years away from it.... but maybe go on short vacations to diffrent areas during their yucky months and see what you can handle and how it makes you feel

Hi, I agree, and would suggest maybe visiting some places over time. See what you think. As for us, my husband cant take the heat at all, thats why we live up north and will always remain in the north somewhere. :) Best of luck.

I've lived in NY, FLA and now in MI, I have to agree with the others you need to find what is right for you. A lot depends on if you are heat or cold intolerant or am both like I am and many others. Another thing is does humidity or the barametric pressure a problem? I've seen many posts say the state of Wasington is a great place to live so a lot of research on your part is going to be in order, so good luck on your search and also take tax breaks and utility breaks may be in order as well as medical costs to where you may want or need to live and a big part also is there a good neuro you can see if that is important to you, anyways good luck in your search.

From listening to other folks here on the board, I think one of the most important factors in finding a new place to live is medical help. There are so many wonderful places to live in the USA, but medical assistance is lacking or non-existent. So, the number one issue for me in retiring is where can I find the best medical assistance in my retirement years. For that reason, I won't retire away from where I live now. My medical team is wonderful and I wouldn't want to try to find a comparison team because I don't think I could.

I have thought of this often. My husband is 49 and I am 46. I suffer horribly from any kind of heat, even the heat in my small galley kitchen and the horrible florescent lighting in all stores. We live in Texas and if you know much about Texans you know how we all feel abbott our wonderful "country". My husband asked me a question not long after we started dating and both of us pretty much knowing that we had finally found true and forever love. He said, "who do you feel more patriotic towards, the United States or Texas?"and without even thinking I replied, "well Texas of course!". I actually felt offended that he would have the audacity to actually ask me that! :-) he later told me that was the final thing he had to know about me, and having heard that he decided on the spot that I was the wife for him and the rest of his life.

Having said this and meant it I do have to admit that now that I can no longer tolerate heat and actually become sick from it, well I have had to readjust my thinking some. We used to live in the Coastal Planes region of Texas, about 30 miles from the bay. That meant lots of coastal breezes and when it was hot you would sweat alot, but with the constant breezes your sweat would actually cool you sorts like your very own built in air conditioner. It was actually very pleasant and the winters are mild there...no snow to shovel!! ;-)

Then we moved to Central Texas/the Hill Country of Texas about 30 miles north of Austin...big retirement community with Sun City right down the road. I would NOT EVER recommend this as an area to live. The heat is VERY hot with temps reaching triple digits for weeks on end. It is very dry with hardly no humidity. When you step outside on a sunny mid August day with a high of 112 I swear it feels exactly like you have opened an oven door and your going right into to literally cook for awhile. I have lived here for 13 years now and am pretty much trapped for another 6 years till my youngest graduates.

Now heres the big secret for me. In 6 years whether my husband likes it or not I will be moving to Rockport, Texas. It is only abbott 20 minutes away from Corpus Christi. You have the best of both worlds. A safe quiet haven to live and a city to go to when you want city action. Rockport is a wonderful place to live if you have MS. its highs in the summer barely reach 90 and with the bay all around you the coolness is always there. Its winters are mild as well. I was there for a whole week during July 4th celebration and I honestly can not remember a time when I felt better. Even my allergies were calm. Its very peaceful there and everyone gets along with everyone. Plus the fishing is excellent, especially out on the canals or on Copano Bay red fish are the biggest catch and if you have never had blackened red fish you just don't know what you are missing!!

So, my suggestion would be Rockport. Thriving retirement crowd also!! Good luck my friend. Hope you find exactly what you are seeking!!!
