I just got the report for my most recent MRI.

Brain: There are greater than 10 supratentorial periventricular white matter lesions. These have increased in the right temporal lobe from the patient's prior exam. Approximately 4 new punctate white matter lesions are identified.

Not too bad considering that at dx eight years ago I only had two. Still, just how many is greater than ten ? After my next Tysabri infusion I'll pick up a DVD of the actual images.

Ouch! When is your doc appointment? how many have been acquired since you started Tysabri? Am I reading your post right 4 new punctuate lesions since Tysabri-since last MRI? Perhaps you have acquired antibodies against Tysabri? I'll be interested in what your doc says. ME--1 years after starting Tysabri, I hadn't aquired any new ones--not sure what a 2 year MRI would show.

I'm uncertain how many new ones are acceptible with TY-ty is not 100% effective--just 60% effective so some new lesions would happen. In the FDA transcripts that returbned Ty to market in 2006 they a relapse is predicted at 5 years with Ty--so there not eliminated with Ty.

Any past relapses to go along with these new lesions?

Perhaps the size of the new lesions makes a difference to when determining Ty effectiveness? How big were your original 2 lesions--compared to the 4 new lesions which are punctuate sized.?

Thank for your reply---what are your thoughts on the result?

I didn't want to give the report in its entirety because what I already provided is confusing enough. Initially, like you, I too was extremely concerned. Rather than transcribe the report, I'll translate it.

Yes, there have been four new lesions since the last MRI. The pathologist was just giving the facts. My neuro included a cover letter mentioning that the four new lesions might not be new at all, but were newly picked up because the facility has upgraded from 1.5 to 3.0 - the physical machine. It is twice as strong, and therefore can catch things twice as well.

Both the pathologist and my neuro said that essentially I am stable. I would disagree slightly, but I'm just the patient. All in all though I am doing relatively fabulously well. Eight years in and I can still walk ! Oh, and my last Tysabri was # 44 as I recall. It's been over 3 years.

Comngrats on the over 3 years with Ty---and thank you for posting an explanation of that change from a 1.5 Telsa to a 3.0 Telsa. From what I have read on them, scans from the two MRI's are not comparable. It sounds like your getting a new baseline MRI for comparisons with future scans.

It actually sound like all around good news now. Especially with your maintained physical abilities---it sounds as if Ty is doing its job. Unfortunately there still is no medication to slow aging :(
