I got my first Kindle for Christmas year before last. At the time it was the mid-grade one that was available, but I am not sure what version it is. I decided to upgrade and just ordered the Kindle Fire. I can't wait to get it!
There are so many things I love about my Kindle. Being able to change the font size has been a very important feature for me. When I'm having a bad vision day and still want to read a little I can adjust easily adjust the font.
The ease of use is also important. I love being able to purchase a book and have it within seconds.
Another good thing is the free books available on Amazon. It changes daily and often they are not the types I would read but every now and again I find a really good one on the free list.
Good luck with your decision and let us know which one you choose!
I like my Kindle because it will read the book to me.
Love it.
I paid $285 for mine and that was for the white one of old days.even then I still waited almost 2 years before I got it. I'm pretty much house bound, being on disability, having no friends or family any where near. Kindle has become my best friend.
I make use of the categories and you wouldn't believe how much that helps. I am the kinda reader who is usually reading about 5 to 10 books at a time. For example, right now I am reading (in my kindle) Lasher by Anne Rice for my really good fiction choice, and I am also treading The MS Manifesto by the About.com guide, Iam also reading a book I bought long ago about fibro and cfs and finally I am reading a more recent purchase called Modern Buddhism.
Now keep in mind that those books are easily accessible to me cuz when I buy them I put them in their categories...like shelving books at the library. That is what your kindle is...your very easily accessible private library. Plus you make the names of the categories. I put down the fibro book more than a year ago (well just didn't click on it) and yet when I wanted to read it again I just looked under "medical"and clicked on it and there it was!!!
Now the beauty of a kindle is also that you are not bound to it for life.so many people will not buy one cuz they absolutely adore the old fashioned reading experience...smell of paper, turning pages, feel of the book in ones hand, etc..even my very young optho doc did not want to get one for these reasons. Like I told him he can still read"real" books.
While I am reading all those other books in my kindle I am also treading "real"books right now. I am reading a book about how to make small changes in ones life in order to find peace and happiness, I am treading a book about food preparation and preservation before a catastrophe and also a "preppers"book for catastrophes or end times. I am reading a herbal book and my nightly Bible reading. All these books are hard bound or paperback books. Best of both worlds!!
now I can say I would much rather have a kindle fire because they have these revolutionary books that combine reading with audio and video formatting....ahhhhh....true true true bliss!!! To be alive during such a time is truly amazing!! All the technology I could ever ask for is the ability to have music or video that goes with what I am reading....Lynne you MUST buy the fire!!! Plus you can post on it and reply!!! I think I'm gonna go and beg my meanie mom to buy me one!!!! Tootle-o for now! Sorry so long..tried to be paragraph generous but kindle is just to darned exciting!!!! : D
Happy Reading Renee
Since my last relapse I have struggled with being able to read as much as I would like. I used t o read 2 - 3 books a month but now struggle to get a few paragraphs in.
People had suggested an e-reader but I had resisted getting one because I thought I would miss the paper book experience. You know the feel of the book in my hand, the smell of the pages.
With the Fire I am able to focus on the text and I change the size. I read email and surf the web. I also have downloaded several apps and games that I use regularly to help with memory and coordination. Plus they are just fun.
For me getting the Fire was a great thing and I am glad the kids could see what I could not.
I love that the battery last about 40 hours and that it is very light weight (the iPad is heavier and battery doesn't last as long).
I have a bit of a reading addiction and love being able to find free or cheap books.
i do miss going to the library and get lots of books, but the kindle is great for people that don't get around easily and can't lug the heavy book bags.
One comment she made about the fire is that it is hard to see when sun glare is an issue (sitting at the pool etc.) But I don't think many of us are out lounging by the pool in the summertime!!
Happy Reading
