How many of you out there have Dawson Fingers on your MRI?

Dawson's fingers is a condition affecting the brain of MS resulting from the inflammation around long axis of medular veins. This results in a finger-like appearance of the lesions extending mainly off the ventricles within the brain.

HUH!? Never heard of such a thing! I have heard of Dawson's Creek" unfortunately though! HA!

Would be curios to hear what others have to say on this topic though!

For those who have it, what symptom does it equate to? Does anyone know or is it just that you see it on your MRI?

I have never heard of that, but like BelueMyst I too have heard of Dawson's Creek. How bad is that, I never even watched it.
Curious though, what are the symptoms?

Dawson fingers are a radiographic feature depicting demyelinating plaques through corpus callosum, arranged at right angles along medullary veins. They are a relatively specific sign for multiple sclerosis (MS).

the corpus collosum connects the left & right hemisphere of the brain. the brain stores some things that require both halfs of the brain. like the motor knowledge to make sound and speak is on one side of the brain but the knowledge of langauge is on the other side. can cause difficulty in 'knowing what you want to say" just can't seem to say it right.

thats one example of not having a good connection between the left & right hemisphers.

then it would depend a lot on where the fingers are located..ie a finger located in the motor region near the front of the brain,may cause more difficulties with motor movement...i believe dawson fingers can cause a wide range of different symptoms depending on where they are located.

I do not think I have it, but thanks nnyl1 for explaining about Dawson`s fingers and now I have to call my MS nurse to find out if I have it to.

MIne is in the area that controls me trying to find the right words and then speaking them. I will eventually figure it out but it can be very embarrassing while fumbling through my mind to find the words I want.

My doc told me they are just like regular lesions only larger with what looks like fingers and it depends on where they are in your brain as to how they affect you.
