I remember reading in some health magizine a few months ago, not sure what one, sorry. But I remember there was an article about a study that was happening in Europe with pregnacy hormones helping to stop MS, and how the women were just taking estreal pills in the study to cure MS.
"They" claimed that, that is the hormone to stop MS. There needed to be alot more research involved because men of course do not have this hormone and they develop MS too.


Honestly it seemed like one of those snake oil cures all kind of articles.

It certainly sounds linked together, but I'm sure that if this was a fix for MS, there would be many of us on bc. I agree with princess, sounds like a snake oil cure all kind of article.

THere are many estradiol studies here in the US and it is NOT a cure but it does keep the symptoms at bay - unfortunately common side effect of using the hormone without being pregnant - breast cancer. So far it is switching one disease for another. Just can't win I guess but they are trying different derivatives of the hormone and substrates and who knows may work yet. You just have to remember for action there is a reaction but great deduction. I guess Michelle Dugger will never get MS (lol).

Just read an article yesterday about this..... there is research being done about the estriol hormone keeping MS Symptoms at bay. With me personally, I got pregnant shortly after my first episode in 1999, and when I had my follow-up MRI 1 month post partum, nothing was found on my scan..... NOTHING. Not even the original lesion they had found on my brain stem. The article I read yesterday though, said that we are more likely to develope a significant relapse during the 6 months post partum, but once again, I was breast feeding during that time, and I wonder if that didn't help my situation.
I don't know. Sometimes I think "so what?" if snake oil works? It may work for some but not all, just like all the other meds out there now.

I find this very interesting and will do more research on it. I had a hysterectomy when I was 26 and have been on HRT (estradiol) for almost 20 years now.

About 5-6 years ago the GP I was seeing at the time took me off estradiol because of the big breast cancer scare that was going on at the time. I was miserably sick for over a year when my new GP said there was no reason for me to suffer the way I was and put me back on it. Come to think of it. it was during that time that my very first symptoms started. Of course I had no clue at the time that those symptoms would/could be connected to anything.

I do have regular mammograms and am scheduled for one 10 days and so far no problems.

I guess I was just curious because if everybody is different, why treat everybody the same medications. If there is no significance in the number or location of lesions, how do we know if some people will have another relapse again for years. How do we know if the medication is really working if even off the meds, some will not have symptoms anyway???? I just don't want to be on a "just-in-case" medication. Im already taking meds for the rest of my life because I have graves disease so I have to take a thyroid hormone everyday.

I've been thinking a lot myself. I haven't been diagnosed with MS, but I've had these strange symptoms for years, so I made an appointment to see my Neuro. I say, "My Neuro", because I have bseen him in the past and was told I have possibly, Labyrinthitis. I read somewhere that this could also be a symptom of MS. Recently, I had a terrible outbreak of cold sores. This left me with back spasms, and they were so painful that I had to go to the ER. I mentioned the cold sores to the doctors, but they just shrugged this off as nothing. I later heard on the news about the Herpesvirus6 and how this could be linked to MS. I also read a post on here where someone believed they developed MS after having Mononucleosis. This also has to do with a Herpesvirus. I believe there are six or sevent different Herpesvirae. Scientists are now believing that it's possible that they could be looking at a cure for MS through the use of a specific monkey that carries the Herpesvirus6. Perhaps you can google this for more info. Meanwhile, I believe the symptoms I'm having (which has been for years now), was caused when I had influenza some years ago. I was just wondering if anyone has ever had any related diseases that contains the Herpesvirus. To name a few: Roseola, Mononucleosis, Fever Blisters, Chicken Pox, Shingles, etc.

You are right on target flowers. I tested positive for epstein barr (HSV6) had mono yrs ago and cold sore and leg/nerve pain were thought connected by my neuro at the time when that happened too. I had 2 severe cases of the flu back to back a couple of years before having first MS attack.

Also did anyone hear about the supposedly lower risk for breast cancer while on HRT---if you have had a hysterectomy?

Mjideas, that is so weird. I too had three strange cases of the flu back to back. It was as if the second and third cases happened around the exact time as the first one. I always felt that the second two were related to the first. When I had the first, I lived in Los Angeles. By the second and third case, I had moved to Chicago, but I'm almost sure they were the same strains of flu. I always thought this was so strange. Later, after having the third case of the flu, this is when I started having some sort of pressure on the left side of my face. I was told by the doctor that he believed it was MS. I had tests done but they came back negative. Afterwards, I eventually forgot about it, but I always had unexplained symptoms. Then two years ago, I had a severe case of vertigo. I'm now starting to really look into this as it seems I'm getting sicker. Was never sure what had really happened, but I know there is a connection. I'm going to talk to my Neuro about all of this.
Throughout the years, I started getting fever blisters.

I heard that they were doing clinical trials about using the same hormones that we get when we are pregnant. But I haven't heard anything about it in ages. Curious as to what the status is. I am going to see my neuro next Monday. I will ask him then. He stays up on everything.
