In MI you have to have an evaluation for it through a hospital and they show you how to drive with it before the conversion. I am not sure how they do it in CO. I would contact a few dealers as to who does the conversion in your area. It was this conversion company that let me know I needed to contact the right hospital for the eval. It is at least a place to start. Good luck finding the info.

A friend of mine took private lessons here in suburban Boston. I think she got the instructor thru the local MS Society. I know there is training and testing thru the local rehabilitation hospital. But she had several private lessons driving real time on the street.

There there is one place just north of the border in NH who does conversion of vans, Dealers do give a small discount for hand control cars sold. The state department of rehabilitation would be a good place to check also.

My latest wheelchair salesman (whose wife has MS) said the best choice van for this is a Toyota Sienna. You have an option of entering from side or back. Vans are often blocked on the side so I myself would go with the rear entry version.

This is probably more info than you need but I've been looking into it so sharing what I know..

It is not that hard. I got mine out of emergency necessity. I fell off of a ladder and shattereds my ankle. I was having trouble with my right foot before this even happened. While I was laying in bed, I had someone take my truck in for the conversion. Four days after I was off of the morphine, I drove into work for a couple of mile down some county roads. The next day, I waited until the traffic was clear and I had the highway to myself. I then made the 34 mile drive into work. I got into work late and left work early for a couple of weeks until I was really comforatable with them.

I still have a little trouble backing a trailer since ging to hand controls. I just seem to sometimes get confused.
