I am in the same boat as you, just taking sometime off from my current med (copax) and considering tecfidera. I always thought Gilenya is for more advanced cases, but not sure on that.

Just had MRI's with no new lesions on brain or Tspine, but 1 8mm lesion on c1 vertebrae. Since this is new lesion on new area, it is a breakthrough lesion and my neuro switches meds. She wants me off of my shot Rebif and onto a oral. My choices are Aubagio, Tecsidera(BG-12) or Gilenya.
The neuro is recommending I try the Tecidera. Anyone have feedback? Ive heard of the flushing, Hip joint pain and GI/Colon issues with the Tecditera. Thanks for all feedback.

Hi - I'm Deb (debrjean). Diagnosed in 1988; Now using cane/forearm crutch. I finally decided to see a neurologist. He put my in a medication trial - I was on a a med that required 3 shots a day (thank you MS - I can't remember the name) and then switched to GILENYA. I had NO side effects from either. However, I developed new lesions 8 months after being on the Gilenya. Did it work for 8 months - I guess so. Now I'm getting monthly Tysabri infusions.

I haven't tried anything other than copaxone and rebif; however, it's my understanding that we really wouldn't be able to tell if these things are working but can hope for less progression for the future if we're on something? So, I don't take anything currently. I haven't seen enough support for my own liking to justify being on something that weakens my entire immune system. These are immuno-suppressants and also hormone suppressants and I don't like that idea but am always listening in case there is a better argument or a better med.

I was diagnosed in August 2014 and prescribed Tecfidera. The initial flushed sensation was brief and tolerable, but I will be talking to my neurologist about discontinuing Tecfidera because I've had severe gastrointestinal difficulties (diarrhea; stomach cramping). This side effect may be unusual and was supposed to dissipate over time according to the literature, but it has not. I hope your experience is better if you try it.

thank you all for sharing your thoughts about Tecfidera. I guess I am going to start it this week. I am a little worried about the possible effects of GI issues. I already have sensitivity to GI issues. :( I am hoping the side effects are not big. I guess I can tolerate Flushing, but, I am not excited about switching over to this. Tysabri was helping me, but the most recent check on me showed too many potential chances of getting PML. Interestingly enough, I do read that PML is also related to Tecfidera. So, I am not sure why switching from one to another is smart, when both drugs take PML risks in to the possibilty chance.

I have been listening to several stories on YouTube, from people who have taken it, and either had bad results, or some ok results.
I guesss I will just have to give it a try, and hope for the best.
