Is anyone on Gilenya? How do you afford It? My dr is considereing it for me and I was floored when I learned the price. How would it affect my medicare and what about the donut hole? I have other issues than ms. simple high blood pressure meds are costly too. Oh, what to do, what to do...

I am on Gilenya and have been for a year.

My insurance covers it pretty comprehensively. However, Gilenya does have a co-pay program that will help pay (I believe) up to $800 per month. I have a decent income range and Blue Cross - $30 per month copay for this - and they approved me for this program so eligibility is pretty flexible I believe. I would definitely look into it.

I too am on Gilenya. Like what Shelley said, my insurance company pays for it and Gilenya pays my co-pay which I think is pretty awesome for them to do. I really like this medication.

I don't take Gilenya but when I was on Tysabri, an equally expensive drug, my MS doc got with the pharmacy company and I only had to pay the $50.00 deductible for each dose (one a month). Tysabri was $6,700.00 per dose (month). Normally my co-pay for any tier 5 drug is 30%.

It might take a fight with your insurance company or Medicare to get it approved but most like with effort it will be.

I was on it when it first came out. My insurance covered all of the expenses. I know that Gilenya offers payment assistance if needed. Check out their website for a phone number.
