Here is my latest episode of forgetfulness (might make you feel better) Imagine this: the local community college here in Germany has asked you to give a 90 minute Travel and Culture presentation for members of the public, talking about your home country (in my case NZ). You spend most of the weekend researching and compiling a selection of the best scenic shots, tourist guides and assembling a pretty decent slideshow presentation with titles and notes.
They advertise the presentation in the newspaper, 40 plus people turn up and pay and entry fee to see the show. You arrive in time to set up the laptop and projector..only to find that OF COURSE the Apple Firewire adaptor doesnt fit in your Macbook! what ever made me forget that I had to buy a special cable to connect it to a projector! totally forgot I wasnt using my iPad... Manager scurrying around like a headless chicken trying to find an Apple adaptor for me ("why didnt you think of this in advance" she cried!) Problem was, I just WASNT thinking. I sat there feeling hotter and hotter as 40 pairs of eyes sat watching me and waiting for the presentation to start. Flustered and embarrassed Manager gives the audience the option of leaving now and getting their money back or staying and listening to a talk without pictures. Most people opted to stay and I somehow had to speak for 90 minutes impromptu, without notes and without photos. Somehow did it.
They clapped and said they enjoyed it anyhow. But HOW could I be so stupid? worst nightmare trying to deal with the embarrassment of public speaking without presentation and notes! Must be the holes in my brainthats what Im blaming it on ;)
One thing I do that helps, is to put things in a canvas bag that I usually carry with me, the afternoon before I'm going out - things that I need the next day when I'm out. I still have time to add things in the evening. This is my way of not forgetting things that I want to have with me.
