The MS board I went to at the time a woman who had gone through the hot flash time already, said her doc office nurse said the feeling of being "hot" during a hot flash, is the bodies perception to what it thinks is hot. It starts sweating to cool itself off. But it's like MS itching, or pain. Nothing is causing it, but a person sure feels it.
She said the most the body temperature rises during a hot flash is 0.5 deg F, so it's not really hot. It feel like it is and the body is sweating like it is but it is not really hot.
Which was a relief to me, because knowing how sensitive MS is to temperature changes I thought those hot flashes were gonna do a number on my MS..
They won't be totally benign either. My Ms doesn't do so well when I'm not feeling good. I don't think I'm gonna be feeling to good during hot flashes.
Knowing my concern about the issue a 60 year old woman sent me a message with this advise..."BTW, I found a direct correlation with hormones and purposefully went on PremPro to get NO periods when my doctor let me at 45 (after hormomes for awhile.) I felt everything about the MS slowed down when I stopped having my monthly periods"
I'm an concerned about this issue. I used to run for relaxation. I had read that runners don't have much difficulty with this transition. And I planned to run my way through the unpleasant affects, now I can no longer run. My Plan B is gone. I have a few more years to decide on a new Plan B.
I get so hot people say they feel the heat emanating off of me in waves. I figure my red face, the sweat beading up on my upper lip or my hair going limp before their eyes is what really clues 'em in.
Four years ago, Soy really did help ~ that was probably only menopause then (a guess, since lab work indicated I was peri-menopausal at the time)
Thanks for that input! Interesting.
