BUMP!

The gals at my infusion center were talking about the flu mist because the school system gives the mist to the kids for free. The talk was that MS patients can't be around those that get the flu mist because it is a live virus and that an incubation period of 3 days should be adheared to. That means if your kids get the flu mist at school, you can't be around them for 3 days? Wow. Nobody confirmed this, they were just talking about what they heard. It is worth asking your neuro about if you come in contact with someone getting the mist vaccine.

Do you have to wait to get shot if you just got steroid treatment?

I'm starting a trial for Gillenya in the coming weeks and I was instructed NOT to get the flu shot

I was told by my GP and Nuro to NEVER get the live virus. They both recommended NOT getting the the flue shot. I think this is one to think about and really question your Nuro about.

I have not had the flu shot for several years. I am very worried about a virus dead or alive being injected into my body. Especially last years combo shot swine flu and reg flu.

Just my personal decision. Depending on your circumstances I would check with your doctor.

Everyone has their own opinions.. and no matter what you choose to do as far as these shots.. I hope we all stay healthy and same with our family. We have enough to deal with,

Never get the flu shot & have bot in more than a decade.
Do not get the flu, as long as I eat very healthy.
Each person must decide for themselves.

ok- the gilenya is great- but it can lower your white count way low- maybe thats why they dont want people on it to take the vaccine?

Agree with the consult your MS doc. Mine said flue "shot" was actually needed. So was the pneumococcal pneumonia shot. The shingles shot was OK in his mind as well. His recommendation was wait at least two weeks after steroids to get vaccinated as the steroids could make them ineffective.

Just as a side note and nothing to do with MS, I thought it interesting the HPV (Gardasil) shot was only being strongly recommended for females (still OK for males though). Considering it is a government agency, kind of a sexiest view. I suppose they are looking at it from a pure science view I guess since HPV can cause cervical cancer. HPV has been in the news quite a bit lately.
