THAT IS GREAT NEWS AND I HOPE YOU CAN MAKE IT THREW THE DAY.

I have raging ON in my right eye, and have had it for years. Upon exam, my eye and nerve look perfect (except for a pupil that doesn't dilate correctly now). Ophthalmologists can only look at visible part of the Optic Nerve, and they see nothing on me, and have determined that I have "vestibular lesions" (behind where they can't see). Did you have a field vision test, color saturation test, etc?

Eye exams confuse me. They found out I have glaucoma but is under control and requires no treatment. However twice with in 1 year they can see optic nerve damage unrelated to glaucoma. It is not getting worse but not better either. They said they would do more test in a year. This does concern me since off and on I have eye pain and blurriness. I am not dx yet.

They did not do any other tests as I had a complete exam in March and everything was fine at that time. They just dilated and looked at my eyes with the slit lamp and magnifier.

How do they detect ON if it is not seen on eye exam? MRI?

Many years ago I did have an abnormal vision field test, which indicated blind spots in my field of vision. They called me back and had me redo it about 2 months later and told me it must have just been migraine related, as my results were fine the second time. Could this have possible been an MS issue?

When I went to opthalmology the first time, I had not been diagnosed with MS. My vision in one eye was horrible, and they couldn't figure out why I suddenly I was legally blind in one eye, when there was nothing wrong with my eye or the part of the optic nerve that they could detect. I had a scotoma in my visual field test, I was not registering reds correctly in the color saturation test, etc. They were stumped. My ophthalmologist sent me for an MRI, believing my sight issue was something with a problem in the visual processing in my brain. That's how they found my MS diagnosis, and there is an active lesion at the back of my brain that is apparently responsible for the ON. From where my scotoma is in my visual field, they know exactly where the lesion is on my optic nerve, they just can't see it through standard eye exams and have to rely on the MRI and what they know about optic nerves.

If you've had bad visual field tests before, I would totally bring that up to your doc because it can be MS related. I can do five different VF tests in a week and have different results each time, depending on how CRAPPY my nerve is functioning. Did you have a VER?? That's also where they figured my optic nerves were damaged, it took forever for my brain to register that my eye saw something! If you did a VF twice and it was better the second time around, it could be migraine, but it's also the nature of ON.
