I had an elevated mylein protein as well, but no bands so my neuro has not put me on any maintence meds yet. Are you on meds?

I did get a dx in 2005, i'm currently on copaxone,ultram for leg pain, bacoflen,ritalin for fatigue, klonopin for anxiety and celexa for depression. I have been on neurotin and amtrypyline before too.

Reply #2 is really helpful for me because I'm starting ritalin tomorrow and we are both on many of the same drugs. I was worried about interactions.

I was told by a neurologist that protein in CSF indicates an acute attack is i progress...meaning that WHILE you had the spinal tap you were having an attack.
I was very curious because my LP came back negative for protein but positive for oligoclonal bands.

So does this mean that 'elevated protein in spinal fluid' is different from 'oligoclonal bands'

I had read that a person had to be in an attack to get oligoclonal bands'? are the different?

Many have posted theyu wher thinkin of getting a spinal tap, but since they were not currently in an attack it would be negative.

I also recently read that a positive band on a spinal tap, when an attack wasn't occuring indicated a progressive disease?

Don't know much about this, I was diagnosed RR based on MRI.

I still don't know really what elevated protein means. The only thing i have found out is that it means there could be some type of inflammation in the body. Elevated protein is differenct from the oclog. bands. Please anyone correct me if i'm wrong.

In the 90's I had a horrible LP with a blood patch...YUK. I had elevated protiens but no bands....So I have avoided any more LP'S I have all the symptoms and have been DX'S b the Neuro in Sna Antonio V.A. but the Houston one will not commit now ... I have brain lesions and atrophy...more in the 2008 MRI than The one in 2007 So whatever....I am on meds but no shots.
