For those of you who read my post a couple of weeks ago about having to get my doctor's written permission to get my driver's license renewed, I now have a brand new license without any restrictions.
When I read the back of the form I was given from the driver's license division office, I noticed that the diseases which require medical permission were those like epilepsy, diabetes type 1, and several others. Interestingly enough, MS was not even on the list!!
My doctor had no problem filling out the form for me. Someone from the state driver's license department even called me and told me that I could now renew my license. She thought that she would call me and let me know that I was 'good to go' even though a written notice was in the mail.
When I went to the local office to renew my license, I mentioned to the woman who works there (and told me that I had to have medical permission to drive) that MS was NOT one of the listed diseases. She replied, "Oh." So did I do this in vain? Interesting! Oh, well, I now have a license and actually took a decent picture.
So those of you who have been wondering if the same thing will happen to you, my guess would be, probably not. My situation may be unique for my city and state.

your so lucky here in the uk you have to tell dvla everything thats may affect your driving and if you dont the hospital your under will they do it anyway so dvla wld always find out you then have a medical and that determines wherther you are fit to drive or not i have a car and waiting to to recive my medical date i cld drive it till then but like most people with m.s or any other illness knows when they fit to drive or not and im not at the moment so the garage it stays in do you have car insurance there ???? has here if i drove now and had a accident because i didnt inform the insurance compant of my illness my insurance wld be invalid which then in turn wld get me in trouble with the police so its medical first thenif i pass i have to inform the insurers and my insurance will go up a little just wonder if that may be a problem loads of love lizxxxx

Hi all...this is really great that you can get your license renewed. A lot of people with MS drive even when they are setting in a wheelchair. They just get hand controls put on their car. I have chosen not to drive because of my slow reactions to change. That was my chose, not because I was told not to drive. My husband is home with me all the time and he drives us where we need to go. He is really good about it. So for me, it is not an issue. I am happy for you.
