I heard that they will not take it anyway, could be wrong, anyone know?

I just asked my daughter who looked for a lab and she said they will,,,after all..ms isn't in the blood

I think that I heard they had a new policy and will take it now. You could be prohibited though if you are taking certain drugs.

I originally thought this was a very simple question when I first received it earlier this week. In fact, when I first looked into it, all the information pointed to an answer of "No, people with MS are not eligible to donate blood." The reason most often put forth was that it was to protect the health of the people with MS.

However, after a little digging, I found the latest guidelines, which were released on May 24, 2007. Since they did not mention MS as an exclusionary factor for being a blood donor, I called the National Headquarters of the American Red Cross (1-800-GIVE-LIFE) to confirm that MS had been taken off the list. I was told that people with MS could now donate blood if they met all of the other criteria.

Of course, it is important to mention any medications that you are taking to the nurse at the blood donation center, but none of the disease-modifying therapies or common symptom management meds are specifically listed as restricted. The person whom I spoke with at the National Headquarters said that any drug in question would be looked up on site.

I, and my daughter agree with the angel lol,,,,I know that if u r going to have MS that u r born with it..when I was younger, before was diagnoised I used to give blood every 3 months,,,would ge free time off from work lol olo

They can use parts of your blood. But the problem usually comes with our MS drugs.

We can donate our organs.

My best friend works for a blood center, so I gave her a call and the specialist she transferred me to said it's due to Donor Risk. Having MS and the medication we take are both factors...She said it's more a matter of our health than a recipients, but didn't elaborate...Probably doesn't know why~So at her blood center they do not accept donors with MS.

Just wanted to add this is coming from the 2nd largest blood center in my state...Not sure if it's a universal thing or not???
