I'm the only one in my gene pool that I know of with MS. My dad did hours and shifts similar to mine, but he was outdoors more.

Who knows if there's a Thing to Say that shows it. If we all compared notes we'd find similarities, but then could find people who did or had the same background who are FINE.

I was born with SBO, that could be my predisposition to MS. I know I've suffered DX since the 70s, had a real mystery attack in 1981 (which I know WAS classic MS), and lots of now-easily-noticed as MS events through the 80s, 10 attacks in 11 years all clearly MS.

But before the DX, NOBODY ever put it all together. Well, a friend did, back in 1998 when I told him there's no way I have MS and to never bring it up again.

In 2002 when it couldn't be ignored, he reminded me of his words. But I got 4 more years without knowing out of it, I think that worked out in my favor; although I did suffer permanent damage in the 2002 attack.

Can't cry over spilt milk though. And you can't TELL anyone what you see, either. I think my daughter is presenting some SX and I was crucified when I mentioned them. It's Probably a factor in why I'm no longer with my family !

No, but my neuro told me if I didn't take it easy, after my DX, I would do myself irrepairable harm. I would try and work through attacks. I would have my sister drive me to see clients, work from home, continue to fly all over. Eventually I became so ill I was in bed for 5 months. I was never able to go back to work. I wonder if I would still be working if I had just slowed down then.

I can't prove this, of course, but I'm convinced my MS is a result of a lifetime of stress. Yes, I believe that.

no one ever told me that however being african american and only 1 other incidence of MS in the family...I think that it is genetic...unfortunately....soooo there goes the theory but I did have a "high" stress career with lots of international travel....in a way this is probably the Godsend to get me to "slow" down and take time to smell the roses.

No doctor told me BUT I worked with many people who worked long hours (including my brother and Father) who didn't get MS.

I'm guessing lots work to that state of tiredness and don't get MS. I'm sure I couldn't have given my family the life they got and I'm sure others did that well without getting MS. So, I guess I can blame my MS on my hard work but have to credit my hours for good things too.

I guess if I knew the work would have brought on my MS, I wouldn't have done it but nobody told me and we can't tell anybody the same for sure.

My drs. tell me often about slowing down, and they seem to be particularly upset when I call from work to tell of a new symptom or that I'm not feeling right. Go figure!! I have a hard time letting go of all the responsibilities I've always had, I know I should let go.

I am one of those really annoying happy people who never gets stressed and I've had MS for 12 years. I have worked a stressful job for the last 4 years (high school English teacher) but I love my job so much that I can only think of it as good stress.

No one in my family has MS. I don't know anyone who has it.
