I just asked for a reduction of my teaching load from 100% to 71%. This way, I basically teach my classes in the a.m. and have most of the p.m. off. I was quite hesitant to do this, but having MS, diabetes, asthma, and possibly now COPD, I just can't keep up! I've also had bronchitis since last October!
Administration--no problem! Very nice, understanding, etc.
Co-workers, fellow teachers/friends: I was shocked. I tried to totally keep out of the hiring process and did. Was surprised me was that a couple/three of my co-workers really complained about the pay the new person would get and how it wasn't fair and my co-teacher told me she didn't think she could work with the other person and what would she do and all I could think of was, "Did I ask for these diseases? Would I trade places with you right now?" It was all I could do to maintain my civility. Do people not realize the emotional toll they are taking when they complain about the inconvenience and unfairness a disability is creating? I didn't create MS or any of the other stuff. I think I have a good reply now. Not original, but effective. I will just ask them when they want to trade places with me. These people sought me out to complain! I don't get it.
Needed to vent--only one place I could do it where people would understand!
Oh, I have a handicapped parking pass now due to all of this stuff and I couldn't use it in the faculty parking lot today because I saw another teacher in the parking lot and was ashamed that he might see me and think 'What is she doing with a handicapped sticker?" Well, I guess it could be worse. Pride goeth before a fall! Has anyone else faced this situation and how did you deal with it?
This is not a huge problem, but it really bothers me. I would really like to swear right now, but have 'sworn off' swearing. LOL

P.S. My life has been crazy lately so I apologize to all those whose journals I have not had time to read, messages left unanswered, etc. It's not that I've forgotten or don't care! I'm just horribly swamped at the present time. Thanks for understanding!

Yep... yep yep coworkers... funny thing how they all have Opinions about things, but when something Affects them, ferget it it, it turns Selfish and they'll never GET it.
But they'll get used to it.

You'd be surprised to find people who are envious of your disability. Case in point, my sister suddenly got enraged at me for no apparent. I haven't spoke to her in weeks as a result. Then my mother told me that she thinks she's actually jealous that I'm sitting home collecting disability. She makes $130,000 a year, owns two homes--not counting the one she'll inherit--and she's jealous of me? Is that not crazy or what?
Somewhere, someone is frowning when he or she sees you leave work early, walk gingerly to your car and pull out of the handicapped parking space. The nerve of that woman!
