Actually I have only used Avonex myself since I started to accept the fact that I really had something that I'd "need" to be given any brand new "medicine" to attempt to treat it! That was back in 2000, 01, or 03 who knows??
Actually my neuro thought one of the interfurons would be better for me because of the confetti- like number of lesions that were up on my MRIs.
I ONLY was using this one because it is just ONCE a week to even see a needle! Because I was terrified of needles! (Now ofcourse I don't even mind/ kinda appreciate doing the injections of this stuff myself!)

Yes I sometimes still have relapses, But NOT too often. Pretty much I've generally had ONE relapse every 2 years using this!! My last one was in later 2012.

what was your nelapse and how long did it last? Thanks for the info!

I've been on Copaxone since July 2011 and have not had any relapses or other issues, it was my first choice of DMD.

Yes you can. speaking from experience for 6 yrs on Copaxone. I am now being switched to Avonex due to lipodystrophy from Copaxone. I like the 1xwk shot vs every day and I don't mind needles that much. It was the injection site welts and soreness on sites for days. 1 shot and maybe some aches and pains I can handle. I wish you well with your relapse, hopefully it wasn't severe but it may just be time to switch drugs for you just like me. My MS is fairly stable except for bladder and left leg issues.

Thanks Norman, encouraging. My neuro took me off copaxone and onto tysabri because ty was more effective. I became jc positive. I stopped everything for a yr. Scared and side effects. Last mri lesions were dormant, starting back on copaxone.

i have been on copaxone for 9 yrs and my MRI results have showed no difference. doing really well. if you are worried about a daily injection they are now offering copaxone 3x a week at 40mg. wish you luck....

For me, Tecfidera has been so awesome.

I hated the injections of Betaseron every other day. Now, a pill twice a day has been such a liberating experience. So, life is good.

Hi there, Amy! I'm very late to the party, but I was diagnosed with MS in '93. I began Avonex in '96 but developed some bad side effects, so around 2000 my neuro switched me to Copaxone. I've had no relapses or MRI changes in all those years (!), but I still have urinary symptoms, dysesthesias in my legs and feet, and occasionally, just a little of the trigeminal neuralgia I had way back in the nineties. It's been very mild, and I'm really happy with my current neuro...who's happy with my progress on this problem-free med.

It takes longer to brush and floss my teeth than to give myself that nearly painless little shot every night. All the best to you; I hope you don't have to change meds, but we've got so many of them available to us these days.

I was diagnosed 5 years ago and I am scared to death to start any of these meds. You all seem to still have MS symptoms plus all those horrible side effects. I am more scared of all those side effects than the disease itself. I have had one relapse. Am I making a mistake not trying them? My neuro said it is up to me to decide. How did you all decide? Also my medical insurance won't pay.Please give me some input.

I've been on copaxone and mri showed dormant so I will stick with it.
