changes in taste and smell-from MS???
melaniemic
Until my first, and really only, major attack (that literally knocked me off my feet,no pun intended), I have noticed that my sense of smell and taste is "off".
I am super sensitive to any of the cleaning solvents. I get very dizzy from them. Smells are so much more intense now.
I used to love potatoes mashed,or boiled and buttered, yum yum...but now I canot find a variety of potatoes that does not taste metallic. Even the instant are awful, with the metal taste.
Has anyone else noticed changes in taste or smell, too?
I know that a stroke can do this to people and I had a hard time believing my doctor's dianosis of MS. But he showed me the criteria he used to determine that I have a MS and it was not a stroke.
So weird, does anyone else see this?

Ooops for the double entry, my computer booted me off, but it entered although I didn't realize it. Sorry 'bout that.

Yes! Its actually caused by lesions in or near your brain stem. I have tons of them so now my sensations are all weird. Its not just hot/cold that starts bothering you, it becomes smells and sounds as well. :( Now I am ex sensitive to certain frequencies and scents... especially strong things like gasoline, cleaning solvents, yucky dog breath, etc

My first really extreme episode, I completely lost my sense of taste for two months until a doc finally put me on a round of steroids. I still have never quite gained it back. I would say that I have about 65 percent sense of taste left. I now crave sour candy often, because it is the only thing that gives my taste buds a real thrill. This disease does so many strange things. Best wishes
