I would google it for more info. I've heard mixed reviews, that it does help a lot, but is short lived and expensive.

Ive had Botox for migraines and it has worked great.

I am considering having it done to my neck & shoulder for whip-lash like pain that is either cause by my working and/or possibly MS.

Some insurance will pay for it. My treatments last about 4 months.

I don't know if this helps, but Botox can be used for spasticity. It relaxes the area involved... It is used a lot with cerebral palsy patients aand other neurological disorders in which patients have limited movements/spasticity issues.

I get botox injections for dystonia. I have cervical dystonia and writers cramp dystonia which affects my right hand and arm. I started getting botox injections in 2005. The injections temporarily paralyze the nerves which helps relax the muscles which are affected. I don't have to get botox injections as frequently now that I have been diagnosed and am receiving treatment for MS since my dystonia is much worse when I have MS relapses. I also take baclofen and topamax which help with the dystonia symptoms for me. Botox is also used to help reduce spasticy. The first neurologist that I went to did botox injections on certain days of the month and frequently when I went in for my appointment I would see children with cerebral palsy there also. I actually prefer the oral medications to the botox for dystonia because the effect of the botox injections only lasts about 6 or 7 weeks for me. It takes about 2 weeks to take effect and then starts to wear off a few weeks before I can get the next injections. You can develop antibodies to it if you get it more frequently than every 3 months. My dose is about 250 -300 units and it is very expensive. My current insurance does cover all of the cost, but when I first started it we had to pay $500 each time. I think the cost is around $3000 each time similar to our MS drugs. That said it is a good treatment if recommended and nothing else is working. The injections are not a big deal although the toxin can spread so you do need to be careful if it is given near your chest muscles or neck muscles as it can cause problems with breathing and/or swallowing. I almost choked once when at home alone. I stopped getting botox for a year after that.
