I went to a new Neuro this week. I dont know if it because she is a woman and would notice these things or what, ( all my other Doctors have been men ) but she took one look at me and said when did you suffer from Bells Palsy?

I looked at her and said "What? Never! Why? " she said " You have lines on your right side of your face typical from aging but nothing on your left. When Bell Palsy occurs and the one side of your face drops lines don't form. "

Has anyone ever heard this before or had it happen to them?

Hi Maralyn
Bells palsy happens generally when you have a viral infection. it affects the nerves in your face, generally just on one side to some degree. it doesn't have to fall down per say but it may have felt a little numb and/or droopy at some stage. some times people don't even really notice, it can last a couple of weeks then go back to normal. it may have been put down to a passing symptom (I know for david he had a small TIA in which the right side of his face felt numb and was just slightly droopy, that's what started our journey) hope this helps- sharon

I have heard of thiis. I'm glad that you have a knowledgeable Dr that noticed this is and is able to treat this.

Hi there,
Bell's Palsy was my first symptom that had me headed for the neuro. The left side of my face looked as if it "fell". It was drooping and a bit numb. It went away in a little more than a week. It has left my smile a bit crooked in that the left side does not turn up equal to the right....but only I notice that.

Thank you for all of your comments! Several years ago I either had a very bad relapse or a TIA, the Doctors have never been conclusive about which. I noticed in pictures I had one eye droopier that the other. I never considered a cause for concern, I thought that was just the way it was! Hmm! I will have to investigate further!

I find this interesting. One of my brother's was diagnosed with Bells Palsy last year and one side of his face was noticeably droopy. I last saw him at Thanksgiving and there was very little change and from my understanding he is still dealing with it now. They have him on long term anit-fungal meds if I remember correctly. Now I feel like I need to research this a little more since most of you that are experienced with it say it didn't last long and I'm sure he has been dealing with it for going on a year now.
