oh yeah makes me think of a bbq lighter. the 1st time i was so scored of the noise it would make when the needle came out and how fast the needle would come out. If you test it without a needle it sounds alot louder than it really is with a needle in it. I also was worried id forget everything the nurse taught me...but it came all back when it was time. wrap the ice packs with a paper towel or regular towel before putting them on your skin. when you do your arms have the hand of the arm you are injecting on the opposite shoulder it helps release tension alot

i also found if im eating a snack it helps keep my mind off whats going on

I found the autoject thingy so intimidating that I just stopped using it all together, now i just stick the needle in...LOL Maybe I should just start using the autoject.....LOL

It has become so rote to me that I just push the needle in, screw it on, shoot it in while talking on the phone or on my way out the door so to speak. Hey as long as I don't have to see the needle I am good! You WILL get used to it and you'll hardly remember using it - I swear.

Hi, my daughter does Extavia with the autoject also, for a while she tried without it, Remember to hold it for a few seconds so meds don't come out, now she prepares breakfasts, shot, then eat, that way she is not just concentrating on the shot. The nurse will teach you all, but if in doubt , ask here. My daughter started on Avonex and the nurse that came, taught her wrong and she was in a lot of pain, thank God she mentioned this at the support group and they told her how to do it right. I was on Rebif and used the auto ject. Hated how it put the needle and shot the medicine too fast. One day got brave and tried manual and never went back to the auto ject. I am on Copaxone now and still manually inject!

I'm switching to Avonex & I'm going to miss the autoject. My husband & son can do my injections it's that easy. Some people use heat/ice before & after. I found it better for me not using anything. Oh, make sure the alcohol is dry, it burns if not:0. Good luck.
