this is just a guess, but maybe because people with ms already have an immune system that attacks things it's not supposed to - so boosting immune system activity might just make ms worse?

Our immune system is already in overdrive so we don't need something that stimulants it more. Our immune system is attacking our nerves.

Yeah, I had had that same question. I used to use Echinacea regularly before diagnosis, and stopped taking it then.

Another question since it is AUTOIMMUNE then why don't they do tests to find out what is spurring your immune system? Then you could avoid foods CAUSING part of the problem. Instead of going to a neuro to track damage and prescribe meds to reduce immune system that has already been engaged.

Look into MRT sensitivity test or IgG antibody test that finds chronic allergies that you can avoid.

I am seeing an immunologist on Monday so I will see what tests he does.

If you see an immunologist ask if they just do:
1.)skin testing(I think compared to other test out there this 1 sucks)
2.) IgE testing
3.) IgG and IgE
4.) mediated response test (MRT) for food sensitivities.

MRT actually looks like the best one..so far. It tests for prostaglandins( PGs), Leukotrienes (LTs), histamine, cytokines that then trigger IgM, IgA, IgG, IgD, etc responses.

I am glad to see you are going to an immunologist. None of his neuros ever suggested this but I thought it should be mandatory for autoimmune diseases such as MS.

Ep, what is the name of that company that you recommended for allergy testing? The mail order company?

Even my neurologist advised against taking echinacea. I have read it on the labels of the bottles of echacea against taking it if you have an auto immune disease.

If you are going to take it, talk to a doctor you trust about it. If it boosts your immune system and your immune system is already in overdrive attacking your body, I do not understand the theory of taking it. I would be careful.
