That sensation when you put the chin to the chest is with people who have lesions on the spine and base of brain I believe.

L'hermitte's is what they call it. I do get this periodically. Sometimes it's a mild annoyance and other times it can be quite painful. Shocking even :)

...very freaky sensation. Mine comes and goes and I do have spinal lesions. I don't so much find it painfull as disturbing. I't very much like an electrical shock running up or down the spine and down both arms

when i first had L'hermitte's sign it was very uncomfortable. I had to wear a neck brace to help me keep my chin up. The shocks would wake me up in my sleep. It subsided over time. I still get them but they are very mild and no longer painful, just another constant reminder of the MS.

Just like all the other MS stuff, some of us get this and some don't. For me, it indicated a lesion on my cervical spine. When I called my neuro to first report the shocks the first thing she did was order a cervical spine MRI. Is it possible to get this symptom without spine lesions? I don't know.

I don't get this symptom, but I do have spinal lesions. So I guess it depends on where your spinal lesions are located, just like everything else...

I'm feeling left out. I can't get my chin to touch my chest. Though I owe my 5 year old daughter 3 dollars. I bet her she couldn't lick her elbow. She did it 3 times. She's like a loan shark looking for the money. Then again I should have known better. She laid on her stomach on the floor and touched the top of her head with the bottom of her feet. I'd be happy bending over and touching my toes.

just talked with a neuro today, about that feeling. She said it does happen to some whose lesions in the spine are located near the top of the spine...near the neckline.

I have been dealing with L'Hermittes for about 6 months now. It sends the fuzzy shock feeling through my fingers...arms, trunk and legs. All at once.

I also just try to keep my head up, so I don't have to experience the shock!

That is the sensation that sent me to the Neuro 25 years ago and the MRI showed lesions on my brain. But because I never complained of anything after that, we never knew for a fact that it was MS until my vision doubled this last February. Tada!!! That was a very weird feeling if I recall. It didn't do my spine...it went down my chest.

L'hermitte's is the first major symptom that I had and the one that made me seek out a doctor. I have a large lesion as the top of my spine and several micro lesions along my spine. There are times when it is worse than others and just when I think that it might be gone...back it comes! I didn't realize I started doing this, but I've been told that when I have to look down, I adjust my body so I don't have to bend my neck so much. I must say, I do NOT enjoy having a live wire in my neck. :) Best of luck!!!

I've had it off and on since dx'd, but haven't had it for more than a year now... crossing my fingers it doesn't come back anytime soon! And yes, it's usually caused by spinal lesions from everything I've heard. Like many symptoms if you're RRMS it comes and goes.

I HAD THIS EARLY ON. IT WENT AWAY AND I HAVEN'T HAD THE FEELING BACK FOR *YEARS*! MAYBE 23 YEARS... I THINK IT WAS A SYMPTOM AROUND 1987! IT WAS ONE OF MY FIRST SYMPTOMS.WHEN I DID HAVE IT, IT WAS MILD.

I've had this for years on and off and had no idea what it was until reading this post. I was dx in March of this year.

In my early years of MS, I had L'hermitte's sign to a greater degree. People would comment that I had impeccable posture. I would just hold my head high because I was afraid of being "shocked." It has always been there to some degree, but at its best only noticeable when doing exercises like yoga in which I would have my neck and hips bent at the same time. Lesions have been noted in my C-spine on MRI in the past.

Since I got my neck realigned I have not had this symptom any longer. I kind of forgot about it. It makes me wonder if I only had a neck problem from a fall which has looked like MS, but 5 different Neuros over the years have diagnosed me with MS. All I know is that I am thankful that I no longer have this.
