I had not ridden a bike for years- 10 15 yrs or so- but decided to ride around a small island while on vacation with my husband.on bikes. His first thought when he saw me trying it out was 'does she not know how to ride a bike'?
I had to keep going back to the rental place to ask for a smaller bike until I eventually got a kid sized one. I needed to be able to put both feet on the ground easily.
I have had balance/vertigo issues in the past. I could never wear hight heels easily or safely. But I am not sure if balance was responsible for my shaky riding, or just nerves at being on a small road, no sidewalks, with cars. Or a combination.
Anyone else have trouble and were you able to get better at it with practice? They say you never forget how to ride a bike, but I certainly felt like it my first time.

(Raising hand here) - yes, I have trouble even getting on one. I'm sure it's not that we've forgotten at all. It's all the coordination and balance for me. I haven't tried since last year sometime. My hat is off to you for giving this a go!! Sounds like you've got some awesome determination!

Oh, in answer to whether I could get better with practice - I was too chicken to try again. Doesn't mean I won't though. It's just so hot here most of the time, I avoid the outdoors as much as possible. When it gets colder out, it's easier to move around though. I may try again in the winter.

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...
