I recently wrote the book Autoimmune Success: Proven Tests, Research and Treatments that Reversed Symptoms. Below are some of the tips at the end of chapter 4 where I cover secondary symptoms treatments you can discuss with your doctor ie Anti-Pain, Anti-fatigue, Anti-Constipation etc.
Hope this helps you

1.) Medicines: Gabapentin, Cymbalta (is an antidepressant too), Lyrica, Opana, Darvocet, Exalgo, Neurontin, Tramadol, Oxycodone (aka Percocet), cannabis and Perispinal etanercept injections.
Please Note: There is a big difference between opiates and cannabis. Opiates can cause constipation which can lead to painful impaction. Impaction requires painful digital removal of feces out of the patient. Cannabis, on the other hand, is not known to lead to painful constipation or impaction.
2.) Changes in Diet: REDUCE sugar (alcohol which is fermented sugar, simple carbs and plain sugar) has been a very effective way to reduce neuropathy aka nerve pain. Sugar also glycerates B vitamins (makes them useless) & sugar changes good HDL fat into bad LDL fat. Sugar causes insulin resistance if too high for too long and increases inflammation etc. It is good to REDUCE sugar where you can. Also know that if you are low on thyroid or testosterone then this can contribute to higher blood sugar and possibly pain.
3.) Sodium channels may contribute to pain talk to your doctor to find out if you have high sodium levels or an imbalance of ALDOSTERONE, that controls sodium balance in the body, is contributing to pain signals (see #6 below about sodium channels).
4.) Supplements: B vitamins help nerve health. Just realize you have to activate your B vitamins for your body to use them (see Chapter 5 - B vitamins). Per the below research, taking activated B12 called methylcobalamin helps some people with nerve pain. Methylcobalamin has been used successfully with some people to reduce Terminal Neuralgia (TN) pain, diabetic neuropathy, back pain.
M. Zhang, et al. (2013). Methylcobalamin: A Potential Vitamin of Pain Killer. Neural Plasticity, Volume 2013.
5.) A chemical called GDNF when deficient may be generating pain per John Hopkins research below. IF you are deficient then, per the second link, you might increase GDNF by eating royal jelly and engaging in mild exercise.
Mechanisms of Neuropathic Pain -John Hopkins University School of Medicine http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=1810425
* M., et al.(Apr 2005). Oral administration of royal jelly facilitates mRNA expression of glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) and neurofilament h in the hippocampus of the adult mouse brain. Bioscience Biotechnology Biochemistry. 69(4):800-805.
6.) Capsaicin ( in peppers) may significantly relieve ongoing pain.
FYI when the research says hyperalgesia it means feeling extra pain. Mibefradil reversed mechanical and thermal hyperalgesia
glutamate blockers reversed signs of thermal hyperalgesia Carbamazepine(anticonvulsant) is sometimes used for Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN)
Title: Mechanisms of Neuropathic PainTrigeminal Neuralgia (TN) is sometimes treated with carbamazepine(anticonvulsant). It works by stabilizing SODIUM channels in an inactive state. Article under the heading: Transduction, Channel Function & Ectopic Discharge Pain receptor (nociceptor) experiment.

7.) Reduce glutamate (MSGs) per above research
glutamate blockers reversed signs of thermal hyperalgesia
8.) New drugs being developed to reduce acrolein toxin by Neuro Vigor.
Hope this helps you

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...

* I am talking about testing to find out what foods cause the chemicals that induce inflammation and pain in the body along with others that cause allergens. If you are taking steroids to block chemicals (ie PGs LTs) that cause inflammation do your really want to eat foods that cause these same chemicals and adverse reactions?
* Plus a lab that tests individual gluten Sub-proteins then you just cut out the grains that cause YOU an issue so you do not activate Zonulin (see A.F. Italian researchers data on how this can affect autoimmune disease)
* Also I have good GI testing as they are finding tight junction issues in the Guts of those with not only IBDs (Crohns and Ulcerative Colitis) but also RA and MS,etc. This REALLY helped me greatly reduce my severe UC symptoms to very mild. Finding and treating the causes of your gut inflammation can also positively impact the 70-80% of the immune system in your gut.
* Plus therapy that helps you to reduce your body's stress response (ch3). This can interfere with Vitamin D. This vitamin has been shown to reduce risk of several autoimmune disease, several cancers, if high enough reduces ie MS disease activity and breast cancer survival rates go up when it is high enough. Thus it is very important to increase your body's ability to absorb, process Vitamin D and use it. Reducing medications and chemicals that interfere with D function is part of getting these levels up and therefore getting its benefits for autoimmune diseases.
Hope everyone stays warm this weekend. We are expected to get 8-15 inches in the next day or so
