Here's my situation. I have been getting ill since before Labor Day. I have been going to the clinic every 3 to 4 weeks. Had flu, bronchitis, sinus, bronchits or pneumonia, etc. Each time I get sick is worse than the last! I am sick AGAIN with bronchitis (no, don't smoke either, but did a few years ago). Here's what I am wondering. Does my Avonex weaken my immune system and make me vulnerable for every stupid germ that flies my way? I hadn't been 'ill' (other than MS) for a couple of years until all heck broke loose towards the middle of August. I feel like I am living in a health nightmare. It just doesn't get better. Doctors do not answer me when I ask about Avonex (I don't think they know what Avonex is since they are not neurologists and don't seem to know much about MS). What do you people think? I have diabetes and asthma in addition to MS. All of this being sick brought my asthma (which had been basically dormant for 4 years) out with a vengenace. I am literally SICK of being sick! I'm NOT going to take my Avonex shot this weekend. I don't need to get the Avonex flu plus be sick with something else. I'm thinking maybe I should quit it entirely? Stick with just the LDN? My last MRI was great--absolutely no changes! Is this the Avonex? good luck? occasional LDN (keep forgetting to take it)? healing? Have any of you out there in DS land had the same problem with health?

But I finally went off the Avonex because I was losing about 2 days a week to not feeling well even when I was not sick. I use copxone now. I understand it works in another way. All it is as far as I have been able to determine is a combination of different amino acids which are what proteins are made of. I still don't know how it is suppose to help with the MS thing but I sure like it a lot better than the interferons.
I know I feel better after quiting it.
I didn't take my avonex shot today. Not going to for a couple of weeks...will just take the amantadine and LDN and see what happens.
By the way, the neuro. prescribed both the Avonex and the LDN. He didn't think the low dosage of LDN would compromise the Avonex. I honestly don't know what I should do anymore, but am more than willing to let go of the Avonex for a few weeks and see what happens. My last MRI was great, so now is the time to try something different.
