My heart goes out to those of you here who struggle financially with your health care.
I'm thinking that America is far wealthier than Australia, yet we have a fantastic government run scheme which everyone benefits from.
This is a quote from the Australian Government Medicare site
'The Australian Governments funding includes three major national subsidy schemes, Medicare, the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme and the 30% Private Health Insurance Rebate.
Medicare and the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme cover all Australians and subsidise their payments for private medical services and for a high proportion of prescription medicines. Under Medicare, the Australian and State governments also jointly fund public hospital services so they are provided free of charge to people who choose to be treated as public patients. Australian Government funding of the 30% Rebate and other key incentives support peoples choice to take up and retain private health insurance.
People make their contribution to the health care system through taxes and the Medicare levy based on their income, and through private financing such as private health insurance.
The aim of the national health care funding system is to give all Australians, regardless of their personal circumstances, access to health care at an affordable cost or at no cost, while allowing choice for individuals through substantial private sector involvement in delivery and financing.'

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
And warguppy, I'm with you man, but a spineless Democratic party isn't of much use to us either. They're just as beholden to the healthcare and insurance industries as Republicans. Watch what happens if Clinton or Obama takes office, and how very little changes in our out-of-pocket expenses.
i love this country but there is room for improvement in health care.i myself have no idea how they could or would go about it.
i do know that just as pntpnt said neither political party has done anything to change the whole system.
we had 8 years of dems and now 8 years of reps and for me the system of healthcare is still the same.
note i said the whole system.there may have been changes to some parts of it.
You mean...you guys think that we (americans) should riot for changes in our healthcare system?????????
No!!!No!!!!No!!!! I will not hear this...
Personally, not only do I adore George and Laura (aka: the W's, and their whiny little bitch daughters) but I also truly love paying my neurologist $400 a visit, to tap my knees and write 60 prescriptions for anything and nothing at the same time...
So to all you rebels out there I say: BAH...BAH...leave my COUNTRY alone...
J'adore America!!!!!!!
Vive le Bush!!!!!!!!!!!
christ I need a nap...
emmie
I also believe that on this site we will not attack each other for beliefs or opinions and there is a deep respect for one another. I hope everyone holds this true... thanks
There is a price for everything and paying 45% of your income for taxes (such as Germany) isn't something you'd want to do either.
I don't know what the solution is, but you CAN'T have it both.
I was diagnosed when I was 19 and had no money. I was a student, living away from home, and renting a movie was too costly an activity. But when I couldn't move my hand, then my leg, then anything else, I got to go to the hospital and have MRI scans. No one ever asked me if I had a job, or if I had money. Good thing - I had nothing.
