I am not a grandparent but would suggest maybe "quality not qantity" in that maybe you could ask to have the kids for a weekend a month.day a month or similar so that you can have "special time" with them. It is about the kids & having a relationship with them.
I have one "god daughter" & her younger sister's godparents fell off the radar when they moved so I am now "god mum" to both though not stood up or anything but they both know that we are there for them. Don't get to see them very often as I am not allowed to drive so it is difficult. I keep in contact by phone & email & the girls will email me when something special happens.
