Yes I had same thing when my walking problems began. My right knee would suddenly collapse without warning, My neuro said it was the sign of a disconnect between brain and knee. I started using a cane to be more safe. Sometimes you have to go to using an AFO for leg support,

Depending on exact problem I think a a PT is answer, Your neuro should know this.....but then again so many of them seem not to really care about doing a thorough job!

I've had knee problems for several years now. I don't think it is arthritis because of the way it hurts. It doesn't hurt to walk up stairs, or bearing weight. My pain comes when I'm sleeping, for no reason. Therefore, I thought it was my MS just rearing it's ugly head in a strange way. Finally, I mentioned it to my internist, and she suggested I go to PT for osteroarthritis and to see a orthopaedic doctor, The orthopaedic doctor took some xrays of my back and knees. There was no arthritis found from the xrays, but something else was found, atherosclerosis of abdominal aorta with possible claudication of legs. I'm not sure what all this means yet, as I just went to the ortho. He wants me to see another type of doctor, for my atherosclerosis. This is a type of doctor that will check the blood flow going to my legs. Sorry, I can't remember what kind of doctor he is. Anyway, my point of telling you all of this is to warn you to have it checked out. I too go to a pain management specialist and get pain medication for the aches and pains, but that is not the answer. Go see your primary care physician, and talk to them about this problem you are having. It could be many things. Good Luck.

Thank you so much Choppe...I never though of going to a othro dr. That is a good start. Because before I new I had MS, me and mom always though I had some type of arthritis. Hope you get some good results from the dr.

My left knee which is my weak side has been painful for ages & now the right knee is starting to give way too. I find that the physio is the best as they focus on problem areas & give me exercises to strengthen them. I find that helps the most like bike riding & up & down steps for starters. Also the gentle lunges etc.
