2 types of LDN

when I first asked my neuro for LDN, he started me on low dose novantrone. that is a chemo drug. A purple liquid nick-named Smurf juice by many.It is highly monitored because of heart, liver plus damage and has limited lifetime dosages.

the more common one referred to here is the low dose naltrexone, originally designed in higher dosages for opium addicts and alcoholics.In low dosages it has helped for several neurological conditions, Parkinsons, MS and even cancers.

PLEASE clarify which you mean when referring to this term LDN
BTW; my Walgreens never heard of it. I go to a real pharmacy, as it has to be compounded.

the novantrone is an infusion at the doctors facility.

My nathropathic perscribed it for me and I get it from a compounding pharmacy and they mail it to me. It is made up in the strength my doctor thinks is best for me and can be adjusted very easily.

I personally have never heard of Novantrone referred to as LDN. My MS center no gives it due to risky side effects.

In all my research, I've also never head of Novantrone referred to as LDN. If you google LDN, you won't find Novantrone listed there at all--only the Low Dose Naltrexone. I've been taking it for 4 months with good results. I also have a friend with ALS who has had good results using LDN (naltrexone). It must be compounded in the dosage indicated by LDN--the regular dosage for drug addicts is 50 mg, whereas for MS, etc., it is 3 mg (if you have spasms) or 4.5 mg. That's why it must be compounded. Plus you have to make sure they don't use certain fillers and that they don't use the time-release version. You can find the info on the LDN website.

America, I totally recommend it!!
I have not had an MS attack since I started taking it 1 1/2 years ago. No more foot drop, no more incontinence and my head is not so fuzzy anymore. My holistic MD also prescribes it for his Cancer patients (I saw your other post. Sorry). No side effects. Prices varies so you need to shop around. Between 2-300 dollars a year.

I agree that it is only low dose naltrexone that is considered LDN.

novantrone is a chemo drug, low dosages for ms, ask your doctor about it. i was on it first, because i refused to continue the abc's. now i am on ldn(naltrex) and love it!!! the ldn(novan) scared me to continue regularly, but was very effective in treating some symptoms.

You must have LDN made at a compounding pharmacy. The doctor who started MS patients with LDN just died last year, but he listed pharmacies on his website that he found to be reliable. I investigated this.... just Google LDN and you will get all sorts of hits. There is also a database with LDN patients in it that provides info on how well or not they are doing on LDN. From what I have read, it has very little side effects. You may find that you are making your decision about this based on anecdotal information. Good luck. You will NOT find this at your local pharmacy.
