I applied for my disability 5 months ago. I haven't heard anything from them other than them sending me for a mental eval. in Dec. I understand no work no money. Good luck.

It did not take a year to hear my case I think it took a total of 5 months getting all the information from ALL of the doctors I had been to. Keep your head up and if you work make sure it is only part time because they will give you a hard time then. My neighbor said it took her almost two years because her doctors were not sending all the necessary information at once my primary filled out the medical form with all the information they requested and we just had to wait for the other doctors to submit their documentation.

Same here. PCP was interviewed on phone and I was awarded in 5 months. Was still working small amount. It's so important to be sure all your medical info is submitted, thorough and complete.

I have been on disability for about 5 years now and as I recall it only took me approx. 4-6 months. I applied in October and had payment by march or april.

I was approved for disability last May and it took a year from when I initially applied. I had been an earthwork consultant Pre-MS and after my big flair I could no longer do the fieldwork my clients needed. Not having any regular income and plenty of irregular medical expenses mad for a pretty rough year. I think the stress from it all made my symptoms worse..When I saw the judge it was a slam dunk and he awarded my benefits. The monthly payments aren't much, but at least it's something to keep a roof and heat. Life is better without that stress.

I did some CAD work while I was awaiting my case to be heard. I didn't make much - only about $5800 that year. I'm thankful I had toys to sell to get by. After my toys were gone, I got a loan to make it the last few months until my court date.
I had an attorney deal with the paperwork and he took his cut out of the back-pay I got for waiting until my court date.

Probably not the news you wanted to hear. The system works, it just takes a while.

A lot depends on what state you live in, you can google it and it will tell how long for each state. It took me 28 months start to finish and I also wrote my state Senator and she sent in a request and it got my case moved up and they are saying because of the economy lots of extra people are applying. I hope you used an attorney as they make sure that SS gets all the proper paper work. I went to a seminar put on by the NMSS and they said if an attorney won't take your case till appeal move on to one that will. I wish you the best

I was approved less than 5 months from when I started the initial paperwork - July 2 to Nov 27, 2012 - and got my first check this month.

They didn't even have the letter from my neuro, he was late getting it sent, so my application and the cognitive evaluation from the neuropsychologist must have been enough.

I applied in September and got approved for SSD in November. Although my first check did not come until mid-December. I did use a disability attorney. On the forms that i had to fill out and another set my husband had to fill out. These sets of papers were then faxed back to their office and then the attorney that i was assigned to refilled out the papers using the language that will get a fast approval. I never met my attorney. I would just talk on the phone with her & fax forms back & forth. If you would be intersted in using this Disabilities firm, let me know and i'll pass their number on to you. There was no STANDARD FEE. if/when you get SS Disability you will have agreed to a certain %tage of your back-pay for their services. Since i got approved on my first attempt I didn't have any backpay& was never given a bill.

I had heard of horror stories about interviews. The only 'INTERVIEW' that i had consisted of answeringa few simple questions reguarding my children so that they would also receive a monthly stipen.
