You are not legally required to do so, but my rule of thumb is that if it's an employer that you are comfortable with, go ahead and tell them. I think it's more fair to the employer as well as yourself. That way, if they are a decent sort of person, they won't be expecting you to do things you can't.

Gemini, I would recommend you work as long as possible. Work not only enhances your self esteem and financial circumstances but more importantly you pay into social security. You have to have a certain amount paid in over a ten year span if you ever apply for SSDI. Of course thats said thinking social security will still be around!

If you can do it continue to work. My advice isdo NOT disclose you have MS unless it absolutely necessary. It is a personal decision but I think it unwise. The MS society has a pamphlet discussing this. Call their 1-800-344-4867 number and request it.

I informed them and was treated differently by some of the male employees. One of them used to flirt with me all the time and stopped once he heard I had MS. I didn't really care about him anyway so that didn't matter but it was a learning experience about how people perceive MS. It took me off the market, so to speak.

But, if you want to have any accommodations made for you, you would have to inform them. It is your choice. I agree with deb727, if you are comfortable with them, tell them. But expect that some people might treat you different. The quality people won't.

I agree with Melanie, don't disclose. Get the phamplhet, it even might be online.

You said you went to the UofM for a study of MS. Please tell me more. Was that the University of Maryland or some other M state?

i feel the same- i want to go back to work because i want to stay as active as i can. i have been off temp due to a flare upim not able to do my current job but im concerned ig i go through ada and my employer has no other position available that they can just let me go. i had to give a note to my employer and they required a dx on it or they would not accept it- so they know- hope it all works out for you
