Multiple Personalities Support Group
Dissociative identity disorder is a diagnosis described as the existence in an individual of two or more distinct identities or personalities, each with its own pattern of perceiving and interacting with the environment. I'm sorry you had to live with such a horrible man who hurt you. We sure believe you, and we hope you are safe now. If you still live there, how about going to a hardware store and buying a big deadbolt lock for your door and keeping the key where no one can find it? You could even throw the key away... since you'd only be locking it manually from the inside anyway. That way you would have a safe place that no one could get into, as long as you make sure no one is in there before you lock it.
I believe you and want you to be safe so you can start healing. What he did was awful, but you will be able to rebuild your life and make it the way you want it to be, even though you have those memories.
My parents were pillars in the community, too. My mother is a nurse. My dad was a police officer, fire fighter, town constable, race car driver, great mechanic, supervisor for the town road crew... etc, etc. Everyone respected them, but no one knew what it was like to live with them. "You never talk about the family outside this house" is a rule I'm finally starting to break. I'm glad you're able to start breaking it at a much younger age. Hopefully before you're the age I am now, you'll have been able to create in yourself the person you've always hoped to become. I believe in you, and know you will do it.
Hugs,
Wistala
