As I have said on here before my father in law and his family are responsible for ritually abusing myself as well as my daughter.He and his family took advantage of the fact that I have MPD to do so.When my husband told him that we found out that I have MPD and was remembering more of what has happened to me everyday this scared him so badly that he had a massive heart attack and died.The day of his funeral my husband went to his house and searched it to find evidence of his wrong doings.His family had searched his house before we got there so I am sure they took stuff that would incriminate all of them but they didn't take everything.On one calendar written in my own father in laws handwriting(which was unmistakeably bad and uniquely his) was "drugged and raped(specific womans name)" and also "took her to(his girlfriend's name) house and took care of her there for three days".Then on a different calendar he had written three days later "came out of drugs and let go".My husband brought this calendar to his brother to prove to his brother that his father was a rapist.His brother came up with the bs excuse of "oh he wasn't right in the head so that is why he wrote this" as his way of denying what his father truly was. This story has no point other than to say that denial is a very strong motivator in people.Even being confronted with someone admitting to being a rapist in their own handwriting people will deny when they refuse to accept the truth.

By the way my husband offered to bring these calendars to his mother to prove to her the same but she said she didn't need and didn't want to see them. She knows he was a rapist but wouldn't go into detail about it.

I think denial in this case is where in the back of your husband's family's minds, they know the truth, just would rather not admit it and choose to act like it didn't happen. I have seen this in my family with my father's side, it's like they know but they would rather act like they didn't. If there is proof that it happened, that just shows it.

Indeed Kitty.Interestingly enough my husband recently talked to this brother and asked him what was going on at the time of their fathers death to see if his fathers brothers were trying to hide stuff.His brother flat out told him I don't know because I don't remember.He totally dissociated that entire time period and doesn't remember a thing about it.He shows many dissociative symptoms.So does my husbands mother and also his other brother.

Yes.The denial that happens in abusive families and the minimization that happens in socitey, the coutrs just everywhere really eats at me too.

To my family NOTHING is abuse.Its all a moment of a "little bit of bad judgement".....Even one sister who was sexually abused by my brother.She doesn't think its a 'big deal'....

A family suicide was treated just like that too
"he had a little too much to drink.."..........

AAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGHHHH!!! it DISGUSTS ME.
Their dishonesty and denial DISGUSTS me.

Jesus christ people are nuts. It's not like he had a slight gambling problem or something--he was a f*****g rapist! Parents have a responsibility to the rest of the world to make sure that their spawn don't grow up to be drains and diseases to humanity. Denial is a luxury that their rape victims probably won't have, and if they do, it's not a good thing.

Denial is such an ugly thing. Denial gets the abusers off the hook in their minds and it does nothing but create terror and insanity for the victims. When I was growing up whenever I tried to bring up the subject I was looked at as a liar and a troublemaker while my abuser was backed up with you poor thing, how could she do this to our family, what will people think when she tells lies about us, etc. etc. Another way denial is ugly is because the abuse was so bad my mind needed to go into denial (via an alter) in order to survive.

add to it, the kinds of statements like: "so what do you want me to do about it, destroy a whole bunch of other people?" "it's over, get over it""it is your fault the family is destroyed if you bring this out in the open"...puking filth.

i know i wish there was a kind of magic pill that would make sure an abuser couldn't use denial.

and i often wonder how people dissociate to believe their own lies of the abuses they committed because it's not like they are doing it for a worthy cause like we did as children being abused.
