Multiple Personalities Support Group
Dissociative identity disorder is a diagnosis described as the existence in an individual of two or more distinct identities or personalities, each with its own pattern of perceiving and interacting with the environment. At least two of these personalities are considered to routinely take control of the individual's behavior, and there is also some associated memory loss,...
i have a life littered with half finished projects also. interests seem to cycle through almost like seasons, i find that they are the same or variations on the same theme - typically something creative - i am a musician at heart although most friends and family say i am a writer - bah and humbug. i can draw well but i find the discipline tedious. i cook well too but i have no clue what it tastes like but i love the process from deciding what to prepare, the purchasing, the washing and chopping, all of it. sewing too - again the process is as important as the product and sometimes i lose sight of the product and the process stops. different aspects like different things i guess and when they are no longer present the interest fades.
i think the reason i've been able to remain at this job is that it is so varied. i never have 'carry-over,' work. my work is always finished at the end of my day, it's the nature of what i do. any 'service' type job is like that i guess. it also is dynamic and doesn't require a long attention span or long interactions with people although i am constantly interacting with others.
i have also managed to earn a college degree, which amazes me. i am unsure how i managed to do it. not the work itself, that was easy but attending class week after week. somehow i would start in say january and the next thing i knew it was may and the semester was over and i had an a. the work load was minimal, few of my classes required papers or homework, some i took online but i did have to attend twice weekly for many of them. the internship was difficult but i was able to fulfill that requirement at work so it was less of a challenge than it might have been otherwise.
at present i am engaged in a project with a partner. we have decided to do one positive thing daily. i send her a positive text message. i either make it up or find one online. we've been doing it for about 3 weeks now and so far so good. it helps to have someone supportive helping, supportive but not nagging.
when i think about school i envision myself putting one foot in front of the other and just going along with it. idk. it just seemed to happen. i even had major surgery during one semester but still managed to pass with a's. my instructors were very kind and understanding.
i really think that my life changed when i stopped trying to avoid dissociating and bending my mind to my will. does that make sense?? i stopped being angry at myself and began treating myself as i would a patient. that makes me uncomfortable to write, in the past i would have gagged thinking it but it's true.
i learned to step back and be quiet. then to be kind to those parts of myself that are in pain and that disappoint or that i don't like. i am still working on it. my biggest fault is impatience so it's not been easy. but ever since i began being kinder to myself my life has become easier. stupid, annoying and painful things happen people i care for get ill and die, institutions make errors that i have to straighten out and sometimes pay for, workmen are late and/or do a poor job, and accidents happen. but i no longer feel as if the world is going to spin out of control and i will fly off into the ozone and be destroyed when the smallest of those everyday things happen. and when someone dies it hurts terribly but i know that the hurt will fade while the memories are mine forever.
I see a psychiatrist every 2-3 weeks
I am asking the same question.
Why can't I finish anything?
Ugg this is overwhelming trying to do much of anything
