Ever since I discovered I have MPD I've noticed some amazing things concerning my dog.For example when I have an alter emerging even before I completely feel the effects of PTSD my dog displays the symptoms of it.She gets shakey and nervous,vomits,is restless,cant sit still and is real clingy.She follows my husbnad around constantly even when he is using the restroom she will hide behind his legs.The experts say a dog is loyal to you because of pack mentality and you feed and shelter them.I believe all animals feel the entire range of emotions just like humans do.They dissociate just like we do as well.I think those experts don't have a clue to the way animals really are.

Is it possible for a dog to have DID, because my dog sure seems like it. I've noticed at least 4 different personalities. One doesn't seem to know me. Although it could be me that switched and she didn't know me. Hard to say.

My dog seems to know when I am switching, she begins whining and growling.

Lou, I wouldn't doubt that that it is possible. We had this puppy given to us by my father in law (abuser).This dog must have been abused by him.It was comepletely psychotic.It growled and chased after invisible things and it would run down the hallways and bang it's head against the door.It also use to steal our clothes,hide them and chew on them and fight with my other dog constantly.

Kitty, one day when one of my alters was rough housing and playing with my daughter my dog actually growled at her as well.I think she knew it wasn't me there.

I had a dog that was abused but was insanly kind. He went through periods of fearfullness were he would olny want tobe around me. He did halucinate and protect me from what I called the invisibles. I don't know if he disociated though what an interestingquesion.

My dog was never abused, but she was laying in bed with my wife all the time she was she was sick before she passed away. This was her dog.

I have a Golden Retriever. Right before I switch he will sit right in front of me as if he is trying to keep me present. Yet each personality he does have a relationship with. There is love, gentleness and comfort in his effection. He is my friend and I'm grateful that he does watch over me because I do live alone.

I had a cat Ambroise, who had been badly abused.He suffered from PTSD most of his life but when I adopted a kitten who was totally happy and playful,Ambroise, after a period of crying for pure jealousy suddenly learnt to be happy too and play like a kitten.
He gave me a lot of hope.He became the living proof one can heal .
I feel I am reaching that kitten stage and am learning to dance.
Animals can predict people's switch and epileptic fits.Dogs specially .

I'm just starting to figure out my own dissociation and switching. I'm not sure when it happens sometimes. I'm going to start watching how my cats act maybe that'll help clue me in to whats going on.

I have two cats, one that was abused and one that wasn't. The one who came from an abused household senses when i switch. Her ears goes up and back and she gives me a strange look. Sometimes she stays by me and at other times she keeps her distance. The one that has not been abused doesn't seem to react to my switches.

My little pooper mostly just knows when things are not right, and she reacts to it. She's a bit traumatized herself, and when she gets anxious (either as a response to my tension of something external) she will climb into my lap and lick my arm for like an hour. Then she's fine and she goes about her merry way.

I had a bad night Saturday, not sure what happened. But I do know that my 3 cats spent the night with me. My fall-back coping skill is sleep, so I slept for 16 hours. The cats were there laying on me when I went to bed and still there when I got up. They all never do that. 2 of them can't stand each other and rarely get on the bed at the same time.

What I've noticed is more of a helpful angle. My dog follows me closely when I switch or when I am co present. She lays down with me and sometimes licks my face. I think she knows I need her help.

All of these post are amazing and make me think one major thing.That I am going back to being a vegetarian(I was a vegan for six years) after most of the stress of healing is done. I know we are talking about cats and dogs here but what if the same can be said about other animals as well?
