Multiple Personalities Support Group
Dissociative identity disorder is a diagnosis described as the existence in an individual of two or more distinct identities or personalities, each with its own pattern of perceiving and interacting with the environment. At least two of these personalities are considered to routinely take control of the individual's behavior, and there is also some associated memory loss,...
While I understand the therapist job to keep the body safe, there still remains this part that is seeking relief/release.
If you're not allowed to let her out, how is she going to deal with those feelings?
I hope the therapist knows what she/he is doing.
Locking an alter down seems damaging in the long run?
my therapist wants to talk to her at our next appointment, and see if she'll say what's upsetting her and why she is doing this. and figure out a better plan. but we have to stay safe until then for that to happen.
Raven has been constantly thinking of suicide. She's attempted a few times in the past couple of months. She's been cutting a lot as well. We had made a deal with her in the past about cutting. That if it was something she felt she needed to do that was ok for now. Not the best idea, but we'd live with it at the moment. But she had to cut in places where it could be easily hidden (not our arms). Which she agreed to.
Now she's decided that she is going to do whatever she wants. Including cutting in very visible places. And she won't listen to or talk to any of us. We've tried to talk to her. To figure out what's wrong, because obviously something is upsetting her. But she refuses to talk to any of us.
We've tried everything we can think of. And nothing is working.
My therapist, for clear reasons, is worried about it. And she suggested that we keep Raven from coming out until she can talk to her on Thursday. Because the rest of us are scared of what Raven is going to do.
This is more of a temporary solution until we can figure something else out that will be able to help her and the rest of us more.
My therapist explained it kind of like how we tell the kids the there are times when they shouldn't come out. And they usually listen to what we have to say. When they are triggered out there's really nothing we can do about it. But they know better than to come out when we're driving (or other things like that).
Provide her with a range of other tools she can use to cause damge to release the pain she is most likely feeling atm such is; old plates she can smash, a trip to the beach/lake where she can throw some rocks, a bat and a ball she can hit as hard as she likes.
If this doesnt work perhaps you could bargain with her letting her know that if she doesnt SI you are prepared to let her out but if she continues to SI whenever she is out then some of you will have to restrain her from coming it.
These are strategies that have worked for us. They might not work for you but there are work a try.
We've asked her, and she won't say.
She's convinced the only the that'll help is SI.
And we've told her that this might happen. Like I said, we don't even really mind that much if she's cutting to some extent. But she's completely out of control.
i don't think there are easy answers and medication is only a bandaid...
i found out a few weeks ago that my abusers taught parts of us to punish ourselves for "bad" behavior. my hearts of those are insisting i tell you this for her your Raven. insisting i ask you if you can ask her this if they did this too her.
we were punished (but not taught to punish ourselves) whenever we did something "bad". that was the reason given for everything that happened to us. that we "deserved it". And that has been part of the reason that she's SI'd before. To punish herself/us.
