We have sometimes lost certain abilities, like the ability to do math, but this sounds to us like something major may be going on. Is you husband in therapy and has he discussed this. If not, he may want to consider doing so to help identify what is going on and that it is psychological and not physical. Maybe some others here can relate better and have some other suggestions. USalone gets my vote, I thought the same thing when I read your post. It sounds like your husband has had a change in mental status and if he hasnt already discussed it with a professional itd probably be a good idea a therapist or physician just someone who can either identify the cause or point him to others who can. You know when we have a psychological ailment we tend to think whatever other symptoms we have are surely do to it, a failing of the medical profession as well, but thats not always the case. Sometimes our body is ailing and thats whats causing our distress.

For example, an older person suddenly acts like theyre demented and theyre sent to us. We run a few tests, urinalysis and blood sugar only to discover the poor person has a urinary tract infection or is diabetic and not being treated. We give em the proper meds and in a very short time theyre back to normal. And its much worse if the person has a history of psychiatric illness, then the last thing anyone thinks about is a physical cause, or that the person may have another psychiatric illness that has gone undiagnosed but needs treatment too.

Whatever is causing your husbands problems I would highly recommend he be seen by a professional, a psychiatrist, neurologist or therapist soon so it can be treated. Please let us know how he does.

I had a similar thing happen. I was in a car accident and had a real problem with memory loss. I thought it was from the accident. Then after 2 years I discovered that I had spent most of the time as another personality, got myself in lots of trouble. when I finally got myself out of the dangerous situation, switched back and realized what had happened, my memory issues ended and I'm back to normal again. It turned out to be a disociation thing not a physical issue. But I still think your husband should probably have it checked out for physical issues just to rule it out if nothing else. It's a tough call. I can't tell you how many physical tests I have had to rule out different ailments that have turned up nothing. Unfortunately trauma survivors carry memories in their bodies and it's hard to know what is present issuss and what is past memories. It sucks!
