I have also been dx bipolar. I question it but I'm not sure. I find that when I go manic it is because memories of old CSA trauma is bubbling up to consciousness. I don't want to feel it, I don't want to know the memory. So then I pace, and I'm irritable, I can't sleep well and not through the whole night. I've lost so much time from dissociation that I think I must switch when I'm manic for any length of time.
The same with depression. For me depression is a form of overwhelming grief. Again just below the surface memories this time sitting there like a stone around my neck. My belly aches, my head aches, I shiver when the room is warm. I think it's grief. I'm so new to DID that I don't know enough about when and why I switch. But in the past I was not co-conscious, I just forgot. Now I will pay attention.
Good luck with healing for you and your alters. I hope you get the understanding and advice you deserve here.
