Some alters have names and some don't. The alters that have names usually speak their names to me. Other times I give them a name.
You mention about losing time but not at work. In my case, I have certain alters that come to work with me and during that time they are the only ones out and when I leave work they are no longer out. I have alters that are just for work only that is why I don't lose time at work. Other than work I do lose time.
There was also a time when I thought everyone had inner voices. When I would talk about the many voices I had some bad repercussions. That is when I realized not everyone has these voices.
My ending thought is trust the process, acknowledge and love your alters--they are all parts of you, believe in yourself and most of all you are not crazy..
This will sort itself out. I am sure you are a little panicked about the whole thing, if you are like most of us here as we began to face issues we call DID. It is not as bad as it first seems. Your therapist has probably already suggested you keep a journal handy. That's a good way to find out what is going on inside. We're here for you as you progress. You will be ok. Hang in there.
